You Am I

Whilst chatting to bassist/manager Andy Kent, I get the distinct sense that You Am I is something that happens in between everything else these days.

"Russell ('Rusty' Hopkinson, drummer) runs a record label and I run a touring company," explains the prolific bassist, "and Davey (Lane, guitarist)'s a gun for hire, so we all do other things." And then there's the lead man, Tim Rogers, who has kept himself in the public eye of late with his myriad of solo endeavours and side projects, which have recently included appearances at the 2010 Adelaide Cabaret Festival and a role in a stage production of 'Woyzeck'.

Skinny Fish Music

You may have heard of the Saltwater Band before. They were nominated for an ARIA, have won numerous Indigenous Music Awards, and have secured not one, but two Deadlys. Then again, you possibly haven't. If the latter applies to you, it's about time you familiarised yourself with these guys. To put it simply, they are eight musicians hailing from Galiwink'ku (Elcho Island), which is located over 500km from Darwin. With this in mind, it's no surprise their music represents a wonderful sequence of islander/reggae/pop that is immaculately crafted.
