This is especially true once you consider the tangled web of projects that their band members have previously collaborated on, most of which circled around tangential explorations of heavy music.		Brand New Daisy Interscope / Universal Brand New�s fourth record opens with 90 seconds of an archaic cassette recording of a gospel hymn entitled On Life�s Highway. It�s a trap; abruptly, like a kick in the stomach or a knife in the back, Vices explodes in a flurry of distortion and a tantrum of a rhythm section. It�s a throwback to the hardcore scene the band grew up in, more Refused than Morrissey, and it steals your breath.
