Jamie T

Some artists seem destined for stardom; others seem suited to cultish embraces. Jamie T is an artist who should, by all rights, sit in the former category the Wimbledon-born troubadour has the gift of the gab that saw him dubbed the male Lily Allen and a solo Libertine around the time of his debut, Panic Prevention, and his first tour of Australia was stupendously well-received by the critics.

  Florence & The Machine
Lungs
Universal

The recent Hottest 100 Of All Time seems to indicate that although that J station plays plenty of female artists, the voting public does not recognise songs by female artists as sufficiently enduring to rate as their favourites. Buy Me A Pony was popular in its day but appears disposable now, Garbage is all but forgotten, The Grates and Ting Tings are well-loved but their music seems too pop to be considered, while Bjork has too many songs to choose from. Enter Florence & The Machine with the masterful Lungs; Im not going to suggest that this album will make history but what she does well is write gigantic powerful songs to grab the listener and ensure that shes not forgotten in a hurry.
