Raised Fist

If you were old enough in 1996 and into punk music, chances are you would have owned a copy of 'Cheap Shots Volume Two'. That's right - a Burning Heart compilation with the ninja on the cover. I still remember hearing one of the Raised Fist songs, Maintain, and being blown away: they were tough and fast, just what I liked.

I comment to bassist Andreas Johansson that I still remember that song and that it seems their style has subtly changed since then - not that there's anything subtle about Raised Fist.

Little Birdy
Hollywood
Eleven/EMI

Fucking amazing. They're the two words that best describe this, the sophomore album from Little Birdy. If you like their non-commercial sounding debut, the second time around gets better.

'Hollywood' picks up where Tonight's The Night left off; it's dark-sounding yet dance-y and pop-based. It's a tough sound to describe, but I can tell you this; gone are the acoustic guitars that featured on 'bigbiglove' and in are electric guitars, synthesisers, keyboards and other quirky sounds to explore your musical sensibilities.
