Prize Frenzy™

Another year is almost up for that unceasing reptilian prize giver, Frenzor™, but though this should be a time to reflect on the past 12 months and enjoy a little repose, the hard taskmasters that force him to dole out the prizes each fortnight give him no respite so once more he has spent the fortnight scouring the land for the finest prizes to offer up. Take a look, see what you like, and ring up once the Triple J news theme sounds at 1pm on Fri 12 Dec prepared to answer a question and win your chosen prize (unless you won last week - Frenzor™ stipulates that no mortal may win prizes in consecutive fortnights).

1. Parkway Drive seem to get bigger every time they play here, and on Thurs 18 Dec they're hitting Thebby to headline the massive Sweatfest show. Thanks to Resist there are three doubles on offer.

2. Fucked Up have been earning accolades from just about everyone of late, and Andrew Weaver's no exception. He speaks to drummer Jonah Falco about their 'Chemistry Of Common Life' release in this edition, and there are three copies of the album up for grabs.

3. Every 'Simpsons' fan has their own opinion on when the show finally and irrevocably went to the dogs, but James O'Connor finds enough to like about the recently released Season 11 DVD to recommend it in his review. If you want to grab one of five copies of the box set, you'd best be quicker with your trivia than the Comic Book Guy.

4. The Sony CD pack of well-received releases on that label just got a little bigger this edition, with Glasvegas (We Liked It And You Will To) added to the excellent local releases by Lenka, Augie March and Kate Miller-Heidke.

5. The bespectacled Jon Cleary may not look or sound a whole lot like a New Orleans native, but once he hops behind a piano there's no doubting that's where he belongs, and if you want to catch the sprightly performer at the Norwood Hotel on Sat 3 Jan, you'd best ask for one of the three double passes on offer.

6. Patrick Lang reviews the most recent Triple J 'Like A Version' compilation in this edition, and though it's a mixed bag, finds that there are some pretty memorable moments. Thanks to Universal there are five copies to give away.

7. Mike Cross is a broken man after making it through the fourteen b-grade "classics" featured in Umbrella's 'Ozploitation' box sets, but if you're looking for some entertainment over the holiday period you could do a whole lot worse than scoring yourself one of the packs featuring both 6-DVD sets.

8. Alistair Wallis has a chat to Tim Finn about his latest album, the acoustic (kind of) 'The Conversation', which features a number of long-time collaborators, and there are five copies of it available thanks to EMI.

9. And finally, Ashley Prigent talks to Katie Noonan about her latest project, 'Blackbird', on which she covers a host of Lennon and McCartney compositions. She's playing at The Festival Centre on Fri 12 Dec, and has kindly offered up three copies of the album as giveaways.

Online Frenzy™

Patrick Lang's been busy this week, putting together both an assessment of the ever-growing popularity of rhythm games and a review of the most popular one's latest incarnation, 'Guitar Hero: World Tour'. Because it's a pretty special prize, you'll have to do something pretty special to win it - head to www.dbmagazine.com.au to find out what.

Frenzor™ would challenge you to a winner takes all 'Guitar Hero' challenge, but that would simply be embaarrsasing for any challengers, so instead, describe in 100 words or less how you would attempt to defeat Frenzor™ in such a battle

Disclaimer: If you have won a prize this year and have not collected it by noon Friday 12 December, it will be gone forever. Frenzor™ works hard to collect these prizes and if he sees that the winners are undeserving, he gets angry. Real angry. So any prizes not collected will disappear into brown paper packages and be lost forever.
