Milosh
iii
!K7/ Inertia

When you mention ambient music, it doesn't always get the best reactions from people, especially since the heights of its popularity in the early new millennium. It has become so much of a clichˇ that many songs of the genre are just reserved for background music - something to add to the atmosphere. However, one artist has managed to put ambient music to the forefront, and that artist is Toronto native Milosh.

Milosh had already made an impact with his first two albums, 'You Make Me Feel' and 'Meme' garnering comparisons to other diversional artists such as Radiohead, Depeche Mode, Brian Eno, and Jamie Lidell. However, 'iii,' his third offering, is even more a stand out - a truly rich musical journey.

Largely written and recorded during a year long stay on the Thai island of Koh Samui, 'iii' captures you immediately from the onset with Milosh's production style, powerful electronic beats, soaring melodies, and Milosh's haunting falsettos combining to a brilliant effect. The emotive strings of Another Day are painfully beautiful and Gentle Samui is perhaps best described as post-modern soul music, with simple yet dense productions that warrant all your attention. Wrapped Round My Ways is reminiscent of trip-hop without the overarching darkness that comes along with that genre, and the beautiful guitar and analogue synthesiser melodies of Warm Waters are serene and idyllic.

It is so rare to come across an album that delivers in all accounts, and 'iii' certainly does. It is a complete joy to listen to from start to finish, with its beautiful sound scapes and sensible yet brilliant productions. If Milosh has anything to do with it, ambient music will no longer be confined to the background, but be given its due attention.
