Prize Frenzy™
Frenzor's™ worked himself into a frenzy anticipating all the festival line-ups for summer, and with the majority of the first announcements out now, it's fair to say that most of them deserved every frenzing moment of anticipation. Now, of course, comes the long wait before the biggest bands in the world hit our shores, so Frenzor's™ gathered a mammoth haul of CDs to tide Adelaide over until they do. If you want to get your hands on some of the shiny plastic he's dispensing this fortnight, just call 8231 0881 when the Triple J news theme heralds the stroke of 1pm on Friday 17 October.
1. Sneaky Sound System are headlining Stereosonic, one of the first festivals of the season, while their latest album, '2' also gets a review in this edition. If you like the sound of it, you can grab yourself one of five copies.
2. Okkervil River also get reviewed in this edition, and Spunk have been kind enough to throw three copies of their latest, 'The Stand Ins' to dB's lucky readers.
3. For something a little more laid-back, try Sam Buckingham's slinky, soulful jazz pop, as recommended by Monika Laskowski - there are three copies of her second EP, 'My Own Horse', up for grabs this time around.
4. Of course, Slipknot grace the cover of this edition and if you're one of the folks who wants to get along to their very popular show, you'd best ask very, very nicely for on of the two double passes on offer.
5. A different beast altogether is Dungen, as you'll discover for yourself after reading Lenin Simos' interview with main man Gustav Ejstes. He's just completed his sixth album, which is nonetheless called '4', and the good folks at Fuse have been kind enough to throw three copies our way.
6. The Kings Of Leon have managed to work their way into becoming one of the biggest bands in the world, and on 'Only By The Night' they sure sound like it. Read Andrew Weaver's review in this edition, then call up to grab a copy.
7. Scott Berry thinks The Black Kids' I'm Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How To Dance is unlikely to be beaten as the best pop song of 2008, and thanks to Universal there are three copies of their album, 'Partie Traumatic' to give away.
8. GANGgajang are nothing if not long-lived. The iconic band play at the Norwood Hotel on Thurs 23 Oct, and for true fans only, they're offering up the opportunity to win a prize pack including a double pass to the show, a DVD and a CD.
Online Frenzy™
Dew Process have put out some cracking records in the past 12 months and like Frenzor™, they know that the fine folk of Adelaide will need plenty of good music to make it through to the start of the festival season.
