Not only does it incorporate the ideals of the persistent driving force to pursue an aspiration, but it also encompasses the notion of defeating any obstacle that may stand in one's way. For Melbourne hardcore quintet Carpathian, the word is like a theme, and thanks to their perseverance, success is literally knocking on their front door.

Bursting into public consciousness last year with their diatribe-set-to-beats track Thou Shalt Always Kill, Dan Le Sac and Scroobius Pip have since taken their own advice and thought for themselves, constructing one of the year's most memorable records. 'Angles' is all at once psychedelic, electronic, futuristic and genuinely poetic. It references past styles only in order to move past them, and the bizarre but deeply human moods and scapes it evokes are close to being completely original. It really is a smasher of a record.
