Prize Frenzy™
Well it's Winter now, and to go with the long, dark nights and howling wind, the very first fortnight contains a Friday The 13th. The confluence of these factors calls up in Frenzor's™ sick, twisted mind memories of centuries of wanton peasant-terrorising, so you'd be well-advised to start running the moment you get your hands on any booty you might get from calling (08) 8231 0881 after the Triple J news begins at 1pm. And for the love of the gods, don't call a moment sooner or you'll enrage the beast and doom us all.
1. It must be fate that first amongst the giveaways is a pair of double passes to Krista Polvere's show at The Grace Emily on Wed 18 June. Why fate, you ask? Because with each double comes a copy of the enchanting singer-songwriter's just-released first album, called 'Here Be Dragons'.
2. More than a decade on and 'Shine' still, well, shines, as James O'Connor's review on the back page attests, and thanks to DV1 we have no less than 8 - count 'em, 8 - copies to give away.
3. Trial Kennedy aren't; the kind of band to go for half measures - just read their interview with Will Oakeshott in this issue if you need confirmation. Or you could witness the fact that they're giving away a very generous five prize packs consisting of a deluxe edition of their new album 'New Manic Art' with a bonus DVD and signed copy of their Neighbours single
4. Looking rather suave on the cover are the lads from Powderfinger, and if you'd care to spend an evening lounging with them at Thebarton Theatre on Tues 17 June, call up quick to nab one of the three double passes on offer.
5. Ashley Prigent has a chat to Sparkadia in this very edition about their new album (recently Triple J's Album Of The Week), as well as their show at Jive on Sat 14 June, and if you'd like to score one of three double passes, you know what to do. Or if you still don't just go back to the first paragraph.
6. That Ashley Prigent sure is busy - he also interviewed The Skybombers for this edition, and it's not entirely a coincidence that they also have an album just out that they're rather proud of. But that's where the similarities end, because these Melbourne lads have given us five copies of 'Take Me Town' to use as we wish. Frenzor™ assumed that meant give them away to strangers, so that's exactly what he's going to do.
7. Redhead are launching their debut CD before jetting off to the US of A, and of course Frenzor™ has a few tickets up his sleeve, so just sat the magic word if you'd like to see them with The John Woods Band and Adam Page Solo at The Gov on Sat 20 June.
Online Frenzy™
Nicky Bomba is embarking on his first ever solo tour in support of his new record, 'Jah In The Moment', and will be launching it at The Governor Hindmarsh on Sun 29 June with Laura Hill, Vorn Doolette and Poetikool Justice. To score yourself a double pass and a copy of the EP, head to the online edition at www.dbmagazine.com.au and answer the riddle you'll find there.
