Prize Frenzy™
Now Frenzor™ knows as well as anyone that when a juicy prize is on offer it can be hard to resist, but that's no reason for folks to get greedy, so here's a gentle reminder that prizewinners from one edition are ineligible to enter in the Prize Frenzy the following fortnight. And when gentle reminders are followed by a swift blow from one of Frenzor's™ razor sharp claws, it's best to take notice. Of course, Frenzor™ only says this in the interests of spreading his prizes as evenly as possible, and you can help by calling 8231 0881 on the stroke of the Triple J news at 1pm on Fri 16 May.
1. Coverboys Kisschasy have a massive show coming up at the Thebby on Sat 31 May when they'll be joined by rock girls The Donnas and The Getaway Plan, and because dB Magazine is presenting the gig, we have three double passes to give away.
2. You may have also noticed Whitley sitting pretty on the cover, and it's no coincidence that he also has a show coming up. After travelling around the 'States, he chats to Alistair Wallis in this very issue about his experiences, and if you want to grab one of three double passes to his show at Jive on Fri 23 May, you'd better be quick.
3. It seems like people can't get enough of Joy Division these last few years, what with biopics, deluxe re-issues, compilations and now a documentary on the band, the rather aptly titled 'Joy Division'. Screening at The Mercury Cinema on Fri 23 and Sat 24 May, it features interviews with the surviving members of the band as well as a host of associates, and thanks to The Mercury we have three double passes and posters for the movie, while Big Star have chipped in with a copy of the recently released 'Best Of' for the first caller to get through.
4. Sebastian Bach has had to move his gig from Thebby to HQ, but if his last appearance in Adelaide was anything to go by, that just means there'll be an even more manic level of energy in the house when he plays on Thurs 29 May, and thanks to Lennard Promotions there are two double passes for lucky dB readers.
5. The Obese Block Party will be rolling into town once more on Fri 16 May, bringing with it Pegz, Muph & Plutonic, Chasm and Drapht, among others, and thanks to Obese, we have three prize packs to give away, each consisting of a double pass, Obese T-Shirt and CD.
6. Mark Liebelt has a very friendly chat with The Yearlings' Bob Chalken and Chris Parkinson in this edition, revealing all sorts of information about their upcoming 'Highway Dancing' album, and they've come through with a double pass to the first of their album launches, at The Promethean on Fri 23 May.
7. Her father and brother have both toured Australia this year, but until she announces her own intentions to visit, Martha Wainwright fans will have to content themselves with her new album, 'I Know You're Married But I've Got Feelings Too'. Clementine Ford certainly thinks it makes for a good listen, and after reading her interview with Ms. Wainwright you can pick up on of five copies of the album thanks to Shock.
