Prize Frenzy™
After months of plundering all and sundry with abandon, Frenzor(tm) has now arrived in the time of plenty, when there are so many things happening that he literally cannot give away all the loot that winds up in his calloused, greedy claws. But that's never stopped Frenzor(tm) from trying, and so here, in the first of several weekly editions of the Frenzor's(tm) Famous Fringe Frenzy, are the fruits of a productive week's work, ready to be dispensed at 1pm on Friday 22 February to anyone willing to call up on call 8231 0881.
1. Manchester Orchestra aren't from Manchester, and they're not an orchestra. They're one of the many bands playing at the Laneways Festival (which isn't in a laneway, but the Fowler's Live Courtyard) on Sat 23 Feb, but fortunately their album giveaway does involve the giving away of their latest album. It's called 'I'm Like A Virgin Losing A Child', and thanks to Sony/ BMG there are five copies for dB's faithful readers.
2. Daniel Moore has a stand up comedy show at Rhino Room running from Thurs 21 Feb all the way through to Mon 10 March, and he's so chuffed about it that he would like to offer 5 double passes to his shows on Sat 23 Feb and Sun 24 Feb for free.
3. There's plenty happening at the Garden of Unearthly Delights over the next few weeks and it would be criminal of Frenzor(tm) to keep all the goodies for himself, so he's making available five double passes to 'Andrea Gibbs Is Starkers' on Mon Feb 25 at 7pm in the Garden Shed.
4. Or if it's glamour you want, it's hard to go past the late night delights of 'The Very Best of Empress Stah', in the Umbrella Revolution - there are five double passes for the show on Wed 27 Feb at 11:30pm.
6. Ben Ford-Smith was more than a little impressed when chatting to The Avalanches' DJ Dexter about his log-drumming/krumping hybrid 'Grrilla Step' for an interview in this very edition. If you want to see what it's all about for yourself, then you'd best grab one of five double passes to the show at SoCo Cargo on Wed 27 Feb.
7. Just as crazy is Baltimore electronic artist Dan Deacon, whose show at Rocket Bar on Thurs 28 Feb looks set to be nothing less than an audio-visual extravaganza. For one of five tickets to the show, just call up at the allotted time and ask Frenzor(tm) extra nicely.
8. Few shows sound so mindlessly positive as Hooray For Everything, but there's something devilish at work in their concept of 'Aid Concert Aid', about an aid concert to raise money for failing aid concerts. If it doesn't make sense right now, it will on the night, and there are five double passes to the 8:15 performance on Wed 27 Feb in the Garden Shed.
9. What do you get when Polytoxic, The Brides Of Frank, Amanda Lyn-Pearson and Mark Winmill put their heads together? Apparently it's a jaw-dropping, eye-popping feast for the senses called 'After Dinner Mince', and you can nab one of five double passes to the performance at the Umbrella Revolution on Tues 26 Feb if you're quick.
Online Frenzy™
Never let it be said that Justin Hamilton doesn't give back to his fans. Not only is he appearing once again in the Fringe, but he's got three different shows that he's performing, and he's been kind enough to offer tickets to the 'Three Colours Hammo: Moving' show at the Garden of Unearthly Delights' Garden Shed on Mon 25 Feb at 9:30pm. To win one, simply e-mail frenzy@dbmagazine.com.au with your name and contact details with the answer to this question: from which famous film trilogy does Justin Hamilton's show takes its name?
