The first time I heard Adelaide born Sia Furler it was the early nineties and acid jazz was making waves in the music scene. Bands like Corduroy, The Brand New Heavies and DIG were the names to watch and just starting out was an Adelaide based band called Crisp. I caught a gig of theirs at The Syangogue.

Now the former Zero 7 vocalist and sometime dance music singer Sia (Drink to Get Drunk) has officially crossed over. Her next artist album, ‘Some People Have Real Problems’, is getting released on Monkey Puzzle Music/Hear Music, the latter of which is Starbucks' label, on Jan. 8. The CD will be available in Starbucks locations across the U.S. "It's an incredible honour for me to be a part of the Hear Music team," Sia stated. "I am a huge admirer of the artists they have championed in the past, and I am thrilled that, at this stage in my career, we can be an exciting part of each other's future."

Future Entertainment’s Future Music Festival was a massive success in 2007 and 2008 looks likely to keep the ball rolling. Finally, after months of speculation, the details of the Adelaide leg, including the lineup, have been announced. Once again taking place at the Garden of Unearthly Delights, Monday 10 March is the date to diarise. While Sasha and Digweed were highly touted, one out of two ain’t bad and we get dance music stalwart and perennial progressive favourite, John Digweed. He’ll be joined by Germany’s Sven Vath, who has been away for four years since last gracing our shores, and such luminaries of their various genres as house legend Roger Sanchez and trance titan, Marcus Schultz. Tickets went on sale on December 10th and the full line-up announced so far is as follows: John Digweed, Sven Vath, Roger Sanchez, Eddie Halliwell, Datarock (live), Who Made Who (live), Shapeshifters, Robbie Rivera, Aesop Rock (live), DJ Yoda, Mark Knight, Marcus Shultz, Laidback Luke, Kid Koala, DIM, The Black Ghosts and Elite Force

The much-awaited second round of acts for the 2008 Big Day Out is here! Just how awaited you ask? Well awaited enough for the event to now be a sell-out, following the example of the Sydney, Gold Coast and Melbourne legs. Rumours of UNKLE and Carl Cox have been proved correct and dance fans will be further amused by the addition of the biggest man in breaks, Krafty Kuts, as well as Pnau, Bexta, Goodwill and Dr Octagon with Kutmaster Kurt. They’ll be joining such acts as Bjork, Hilltop Hoods, LCD Soundsystem, Midnight Juggernauts and Dizzee Rascal on February 1st at Adelaide Showground.

As well as headlining the Big Day Out, Carl Cox, arguably the worlds No.1 techno identity, has scheduled a sideshow in Adelaide on Thursday, January the 31st at HQ. Cox is by now a frequent traveller to Australia during the summer months, having bought a property near Melbourne in Frankston a few years ago. As mentioned in the last paragraph, if you’ve missed out on a ticket to this years BDO your only alternative is to catch as many sideshows as possible…or travel to Perth (not that tickets to their BDO are expected to be on sale much longer!).
