Prize Frenzy™!
December heralds the beginning of many different tings, but Frenzor(tm) celebrates the advent of summer because it's holiday time. The advanced course at the Adelaide School of Pillage and Plunder is a demanding one, and the end of the school year is the only time you'll see Frenzor(tm) put on his happy hat. But if you're wise, you'll tell no-one about it, because Frenzor(tm) cannot have cowering citizens knowing about his soft underbelly. So in return for your silence, Frenzor(tm) will begrudgingly let you help yourself to the anything you choose from the prize pool by calling 8231 0881 at 1pm on Friday 18 November and naming your price.
1. A few people have been calling Adelaide the 'City Of Light' lately, but there's only one DVD with that name. Suffa MC tells Alexis Buxton-Collins about it in this issue, and if you like what you read there, check out one of the 3 copies that Obese have kindly donated.
2. The Dead Popes Of The Vatican are pretty chuffed with their newest release, the full-length 'It's A Long Way To The Vatican If You Want To Be The Pope' and they think you'll be impressed, too. In fact, they're so sure you'll like it that they've offered a no questions asked money back guarantee to go with the five copies they've donated.
3. Velvet Revolver unfortunately had to cancel their Australian tour, and while they've promised to come back next year, some people just can't wait that long. Frenzor(tm) flunked the ruthlessness subject this year, and egged on by the folk at Sony/BMG in a weak moment of compassion, agreed to give five copies of their latest album 'Libertad' to help disappointed fans feel a little better
4. Spank Rock's a pretty hard guy to get a hold of, but Dan Watt managed to track him down for an interview so that we could put him on the cover of this very issue. If you don't have his patience and resource, though, your best chance of seeing him is to go along to his show at the Governor Hindmarsh on Wed 9 Jan. Thanks to the Civil Society, we have 3 double passes.
5. If you read the interview, you'll know that Spank Rock gets around, and he doesn't mind the world knowing it. He's got a new EP coming out in January, but Frenzor's(tm) always been ahead of his time, and so there are two copies waiting to find their way into appreciative hands.
6. Again proving his ineptitude by showing a disgusting level of compassion, Frenzor(tm) is willing to offer a consolation prize to any fans of post-punk dance who were too slow to get a copy of Plug-In City's EP last week. So if you were one of the unlucky ones last fortnight, this time around you can assuage your pain with one of three copies of that very same EP.
7. The all-conquering Resist Showcase is set to roll into town on Sat 15 Dec with Irrelevant, No Apologies and Carpathian, whose vocalist Marty Kirby had a very friendly chat with Will Oakeshott in this edition. Thanks to Graham at Resist Records, we have three double passes to the show to give away.
8. The Damn Arms may be forerunners of the burgeoning new-rave scene, but their debut album 'The Live Artex' is still fresh from the presses. Thanks to Shiny, and the enterprising soul who braved Frenzor's(tm) fiery breath and razor sharp claws to retrieve them, we have two copies to give away.
9. You might not have heard of Eyeball Records yet, that's probably because Frenzor(tm) has been hoarding all of their releases and keeping them under his watchful eye. But now, with the treasure vaults opened, there are five copies of their 'Reverse Psychology' compilation featuring bands like Pompeii, Going Home and New Atlantic to give away.
Online Frenzy!
So you want to like the sound of seeing Reel Big Fish, Less Than Jake and Streetlight Manifesto on Thursday 13 Dec at HQ? That's fine, but don't make the mistake of thinking that it will be easy to prise one of the three double passes from Frenzor's(tm) claws. Oh no, first you must go to the Online Frenzy section of the dB website and find a fiendishly difficult question there. Only when you've answered that will you prove yourself deserving of a truly good time.
Some years ago, Reel Big Fish released a rather successful cover of A-Ha's Take On Me. What country do those raffish pop idols hail from?.
