Boomtown Showdown
There is no possible way of measuring "luck". There are types of luck, but to no degree is there a method to quantify how much luck someone or something is having, whether good or bad. By simple definition however, luck is events that are subject to chance. When examining this definition, try to keep Australia in mind. Over the next few months we have some amazing events to look forward to. More specifically, one just has to look at the festivals coming our way to realise that these events are in fact of great fortune: Big Day Out, Taste Of Chaos and even closer to home the Boomtown Showdown.
Headlining the tour this year is Melbourne's favourite screamo rock act The Getaway Plan, who have recently returned from recording their debut album in Florida with producer James Paul Wisner (Underoath, Dashboard Confessional).
"Florida was amazing and a great experience. It was hot and we were in the middle of nowhere, but we did what we had to and the album has come out a lot better than we expected so we are really happy," drummer Aaron Barnett explains.
The first single off the album Streetlight will be available for purchase on the Showdown tour. Currently up on the band's MySpace website, the song displays just how much talent this quartet has and how mature they have become in such a short career. And if the song is anything to go by, this forthcoming record is going to be nothing short of incredible. Combining melody and absolutely stunning vocals with hard driving ambient rock, there is no doubt that everyone has a great deal to look forward to when the newer songs are performed.
"We can't wait to do the Boomtown tour; we haven't played our instruments in like two and a half months. So we are absolutely pumped and a bit too excited."
Boomtown's latest signing Amity is also on board for the Showdown tour. Certainly no strangers to touring after numerous ventures around this country, the Boomtown Showdown will be a great way to finish off the year before the band settle down to write and record their debut album."We are really happy with the arrangement we have at Boomtown; it's definitely a great place for us to call home. The tour is going to be even better because we'll be with our friends The Getaway Plan, and it's not as intense as the last couple of tours we have done either which is a bonus," vocalist Joel Birch clarifies.
Blending vicious breakdowns and guttural screams with pop choruses and angelic singing, this formula has fast become a national favourite. With new tracks in the works and one already being recorded for an upcoming compilation, the future certainly seems bright for this Brisbane act.
"I think the new song we recorded is pretty cool; we were put under a lot of pressure to get that done but it came out quite well. It's all coming together now, because we have probably found our replacement guitarist finally and we have some time off the road soon to settle down and write the album, so there's a lot to look forward to."
The only band representing Adelaide on the tour is melodic rockers In Fiction. After recently completing tours with Behind Crimson Eyes, Kisschasy and many others, this five-piece is certainly becoming a force to be reckoned with.
"The Kisschasy tour was unreal! Definitely the best shows I have ever played and the best atmosphere," drummer Ty Alexander enlightens me.
Ty is the newest addition to the In Fiction line-up replacing former drummer Steven Luscombe, and just in time for not only the Boomtown Showdown tour, but also the recording of In Fiction's debut album.
"I'm settling in well, I have always played this kind of music so it wasn't at all difficult. Neither was touring really, I love it. I actually find it harder to come home from tour," he laughs. "It was a challenge to learn the entire back catalogue before going on the road and I just finished tracking twelve new tracks for the preproduction of our album. So we have been really busy.
"Now we have the Showdown tour happening and I'm really excited about it. We are touring with our friends Elora Danan again, which is awesome. They are great guys and we had a blast in Perth with them, so it's kind of like a great big reunion of friends."
Boomtown Showdown 07 feat The Getaway Plan, In Fiction, Amity, Elora Danan and Her Latest Flame hits The Gov on Thurs 1 Nov.
