Dance News

Well, after five and a half years of doing DANCE for dB Magazine, it's time for me to move on. I've gone and got myself promoted, so will be working in Melbourne from now on, making it pretty hard to write about the Adelaide dance music scene. I'm going to miss Adelaide - although at times I've been negative about it, it's been very good to me, and I've seen the dance music scene evolve into something that is, from all accounts, world class. [And thanks from all of us here at dB Magazine, Julian, for a job done with love and professionalism these past years. Love your work - the Eds]

Funkshop is back! Kicking off the crazy times once again, the Funkshop crew have decided their new home is the Producers Bar at Electric Light Hotel. Get your dancing shoes on as Fiction, Filter, Patch and guests tear it up every month, on Fri nights.

The elements of hip hop have been lost in a sea of bling and bile, but the Ultimate Battle Series aims to bring Breakin' DJing, and MCing back to the fore with an old school style battle that celebrates the skills. Hosted by Flak, with DJs David L, Shep and Reflux, and special guests Muph & Plutonic with DJ Bonez set to rock the spot. But let's not forget the battlers! Representing Adelaide's MCing talent are Prime, K21, Trumps and Motive against Vic's Nikoteen, Fevapres, Dragonfly and Nympflow. Breaks Nocturnal Elements from SA will be busting moves against Vic's Fresh Sox.

And if I can get a plug in for myself, I'll be returning to Adelaide at the end of October to rock it alongside the amazing Aquasky on Sat 27 Oct at Mojo West. Aquasky have been the one breaks act I've been desperate to see, and playing alongside them is a dream come true, so I look forward to seeing you there!

Most importantly, with me off doing other things, this position is open! So if you have a passion for the dance music scene and want the chance to chat with some of your favourite artists, there's no better place to do so than through the pages of dB Magazine. Get in touch with the Editor, Alex Wheaton on 8231 4211 or alex@dbmagazine.com.au.
