Puff 'n Stuff

Hmmm... Puff thinks there's a road trip in order! Grinspoon hit the road on their Black Tattoo tour, and staying true to their form they are visiting just about everybody's backyard. They play Thurs 4 Oct at HQ, Fri 5 Oct at Westlands Hotel in Whyalla, and Sat 6 Oct and Sun 7 Oct at Pretoria Hotel, Mannum. They are joined by a damn fine rockin' band - none other than central coast fellas Something With Numbers.

In what is set to be one of the co-headlines of the year, beloved outfits The Cops and Expatriate are touring nationally. Both bands have enjoyed phenomenal success this year, with The Cops' release of 'Drop It In Their Laps' and Expatriate's 'In The Midst Of This'. They'll be rotating the headline slot on each night so be sure to get down early to make sure you don't miss out on your favourite band! Catch them at The Gov on Sunday 14 Oct. Here's a little teaser for you...

They say boys do most of their growing in their first three years... and with the 'Boys Of Summer' they are not wrong. After doubling in size in it's second time around, the third annual 'Boys Of Summer' tour boasts its best lineup yet with Canadians Silverstein, Brisbane hardcore act The Amity Affliction, San Francisco punk rockers Set Your Goals, hardcore rapper Deez Nuts and pop punkers Capeside. Puff is getting ready for this one!

Abby Dobson, former lead singer of Sydney band Leonardo's Bride, will be hitting the road in November to showcase tracks from her debut solo album 'Rise Up'. She plays Thebby supporting the Waifs on 4 Oct and her own headlining show is 18 Oct at the Gov. She sure knows how to make green shorts and gum boots look stylish!

The legendary Lime Spiders first exploded into the unsuspecting ears of the music public in the post-punk era of the early 80s. Don't miss this rare opportunity to witness their high octane rock & roll, sure to propel you into summer with ears bleeding, head aching and no regrets at all at The Gov on Sun 2 Dec.

And don't miss this either. In the olden days you could see them every second week. Not anymore. Frenzal Rhomb will NOT be touring in 2008 so you'd better go to this show or you'll be suffering by the time 2009 rolls around. At least we didn't do a John Farnham and tell you this is the last one. It probably isn't... They play Fowler's Live on Sat 3 Nov and it's all ages!

Brisbane misfits Butterfingers are planning a massive assault on the airwaves with their new single Nothin Much Happens which will be released on Valley Trash Records. They'll be bringin' their balanced chaos of hip hop, punk rock, electro and dub to the Night Train on Sat 3 Nov with Bluejuice and Tiger Stripes. Here's them turnin' it upside down.

So those rumours are true... Rage Against The Machine are playing at the Big Day Out in 2008. They're also doing sideline shows, alas not in Adelaide, which are already sold out. And by the time this mag goes to print, Puff should have the full line-up of Adelaide's BDO. Yippee hi yay!

After eight months writing and eight weeks recording in Liverpool and mixing in London, Gyroscope are proud to announce their new album will be titled 'Breed Obsession'. To celebrate, Gyroscope will showcase their new material on their national 'Snakeskin' tour at Fowler's Live on 4 Nov alongside Horsell Common and Calling All Cars.

Taste Of Chaos is getting closer and closer, and now is set to be even better with the recent addition of Colorado hardcore heroes Drop Dead, Gorgeous to the line-up after Escape The Fate had to unexpectedly pull out.

Punk rockers from Kuta, Bali, Superman Is Dead, are coming to Australia for the first time, doing a whole range of shows. Catch em at the Cranka on Thurs 4 Oct, West Beach Skate Park on Fri 5 Oct, Sat 6 Oct at The Underground, and Tue 9 Oct at Fowler's Live.

The lovely Mia Dyson has been touring on her latest album 'Struck Down' and hits the Gov on Sat 6 Oct. Supporting her are Victorian five-piece Epicure, who are celebrating their new single Cobra Kisses - the first track from their third LP 'Postcards From A Ghost' due out 2008.

Once again the historic Port Adelaide waterfront and its heritage mill buildings will resound with Celtic music and dance for Celtica '07 - The Port Celtic Festival (December 1 & 2). This year's event features top interstate performers including Claymore, Maria Forde, Curly O, Braemar, The Gall and Duncan Smith as well as the cream of South Australia's Celtic music crop. The program also includes buskers, workshops, exhibitions, and an art & craft market, so check it out!

'Decommision The Coalition' featuring Poetikool Justice, Elf Transporter & DJ Wasabi (Combat Wombat) and others is at Viva on Fri 5 Oct - doors open at 6.30pm with $8 entry. The show is to support charities GetUp, Adopt A Politician campaign, Greenpeace, SA Environment Collective and Vision Generation.

Get your costumes ready! The Third Annual Hills Halloween Ball is happening again on Fri 26 Oct, this year with popular Hills based party band The Dix, all girl concept band Legless and surf instrumental band Cosmic Bikini. All profits go to the Royal District Nursing Service Breathing Space Fund for their Christmas Hamper appeal. Be at the Mount Lofty Sports Club (Longwood Road, Heathfield) from 8pm. There's prizes for best costume, a sausage sizzle and also an art comp. For more info or to download entry forms for the comp visit www.hillshalloweenball.com

Get ready for November, because Katalyst is rolling into town to showcase the new album, bringing along an impressive line-up of Australian and international talent including J-Live (USA), Stephanie McKay (USA), Steve Spacek, Adalita (Magic Dirt), Katie Noonan, N'fa, Ru C.L, Hau (Koolism) and more... Make sure you put Thurs 22 Nov at The Gov in your diary!

After their crushing debut EP 'Victims' was met with rave reviews across the nation, Vanden are back - this time in the form of a split EP 'Black Hearts And Poison Girls' with good friends Repeat Offender. Catch Vanden at Producers Bar on Sat 6 Oct with Day On Fire and other locals.

Bring out the balloons, streamers and birthday candles (does that mean there's cake, too?) 'cos Boomtown Records is turning 5! In celebration of this the 2007 Boomtown Showdown tour is bigger than ever! Headlining the tour this year is Melbourne's pop-screamos The Getaway Plan, and joining them is local rock lads In Fiction, Brisbane hardcore act Amity Affliction and Perth rockers Elora Danan. Check it out on Thurs 1 Nov at the Gov. Here's Matthew from The Getaway Plan, Joel from The Amity Affliction and George from Elora Danan getting ready to par-tay on down!

Hailing from Perth, The Fault are bringing their brand of piano and synth tinged indie punk to the east coast - they'll be at Urtext on Sun 7 Oct with Fire! Santa Rosa Fire!

Bloody hell, 10 years is a long time. Locally revered Melbourne quartet Art Of Fighting continue their national tour this week, with support from Little Red.
