Dance News

On Fri 24 Aug the hard dance scene goes all Kafka on your ass with Metamorphosis at Frequency Night Club (old Gateway/Blackcat... can I stop saying that yet? You all should know where it is by now!). DJ AMS is coming from the UK, whilst Scythe is coming from the west and Decipher from the east of Australia to join Adelaide's best hard dance DJS and transform Adelaide into a sweaty mess of hard beats.

In big news for dnb heads everywhere, Eclipse & Acetate present three of the biggest names in dnb at the moment - Chase & Status with Alix Perez on Sat 25 Aug at Crown & Sceptre. I've been told by the promoter that it's best to get tickets early, and anyone who went to inbound and was caught in the line will let you know that it's a wise move!

August marks the return of Adelaide's favourite punk rock breakbeat superstar, DJ Hyper. Making the punk rock breakbeat sound his own with covers of the venerable Ant Music, Hyper is set to rock Mojo on Sat 24 Aug alongside locals Lachy Pender, Spark, Dusk, Noodle, ATB and SADMA hall of famer Mr S.

Adelaide's electro heroes come together at HQ on Fri 30 Aug to celebrate the sounds of now, albeit influenced by the sounds of yesteryear. If you dig the music of Dave Spoon, Chris Lake, D. Ramirez, Deadmau5, Tocadisco, Dirty South or even Hook N Sling, this night's for you! DJs Reelax, Brendon, Mobin Master, Mal Chia, Bill Fragos, Reload, Dylan Sanders, Steve Daly, Guy-Fi with MC Jules.

R/evolution is very proud to be able to present another show at its Adelaide home, Moon Under Water (Wakefield Hotel) on Sat 1 Sep. A night dedicated to showcasing quality drum'n'bass sounds, brought to you by some of Adelaide's finest selectors, including Filter, Stryke, Well Being, Pulse, Troub9l, Leezee, Roost with MCs G-swift and Snype.

"Death Rap" pioneer Necro is bringing his Drugs, Gory Death and Sex tour to Australia. Necro is anything but your typical rapper. Think Eminem with real balls instead of Hollywood style posering, and you are halfway there, only this time the violence comes from the lips of a hardcore porn director and self-proclaimed "lord of drugs". While influenced by hip-hop greats like Rakim, Kool G Rap and Big Daddy Kane, the harsh realities of his life drew him to the sounds of bands like Slayer and Megadeth that inspired him to create an original style of hip-hop he personally dubbed "Death Rap". Catch this one of a kind show on Mon 3 September at HQ.

And in what is great news for local music, a record number of Australian acts will be showcased to the European music scene at Berlin's Popkomm Festival, the fastest growing tradeshow in the European music industry. Adelaide's Hilltop Hoods along with Sydney icon and Ministry Of Sound spinner Mark Dynamix will be participating with a number of others such as Laura Imbruglia, Worldfly, Lillian Thoms, Asleep In The Park and Beki & The Bullets.
