She doesn't get down to the city from her home in the state's Mallee region, which is why the appearance of Jeanette Wormald at this year's Cabaret Festival is of such importance. With a new album, 'Songs Of The Inland' to promote, this will to be one of Wormald's few appearances in Adelaide this year, and she's likely to add a flavour of the bush to the cabaret flair. The album incorporates traditional language and stories from the Pitjantjatjara and Ngarrindjeri peoples of South Australia along with Wormald's usual countrified fare. Wormald performs as part of the Cabaret Festival on Fri 15 and Sat 16 June in the Piano Bar.
Up in Broken Hill there is to be an exhibition of dramatic photographs of historic architecture and mining infrastructure to mark the 100th anniversary of Broken Hill officially being declared a city. 'Line Of Lode: Photographs By Peter Liddy' will be found at the Broken Hill Regional Art Gallery from Fri 22 June, the exhibition being open until Sun 29 July. The exhibition documents the historic architecture and sites along the Line of Lode - a potent symbol of Broken Hill's mining heritage - a 7.5km stretch of partially discussed mines, buildings, equipment, open cuts and tailing heaps showing the area of initial mining activity, which traced the principal metal body, or lode.
Wanna check out your art online? Would you purchase art from an online source? If so, then RedBubble (www.redbubble.com.au) could be for you, as it's a new website that operates a little like an online art gallery. Creative people (and in most cases they are not professionals) can put their photography, paintings and stories online for other people to look at, make comments on (only positive comments are encouraged, they say, which might defeat the purpose slightly) and purchase. Since it's launch in March Redbubble claim 1.5 million page views per month and say they've sold over 20,000 pieces of art.
'Berlin Tango' is a music performance with a difference from the innovative German duo of Thea Nielsen (flute) and Oliver Fartach-Naini (guitar), who will present an Australian premiere program of instrumental music. The music they will perform has all been specifically composed for the duo, and features work from Argentinians Jose Cibils and Coco Nelegatti, Italian Carlo Domeniconi, and Australians Richard Charlton and Stephen Whittington, the latter an Adelaide based composer. 'Berlin Tango' performs at Elder Hall, at the Adelaide University, from 1.10pm on Fri 22 June
The 'trans:mission programme' at the Adelaide Festival Centre's continues at the end of June, which must be kicking on with the excitement after the Cabaret festival, with a performance by Circle Of Rhythm, who are described as Australia's most exciting rhythm trio. It's all about drumming, which is all about hitting things with other things, and Greg Sheehan, Bobby Singh and Ben Walsh are apparently three of the best when it comes to hitting things. Circle Of Rhythm perform in the Space Theatre on Fri 29 June from 8pm, with a special rhythm workshop the following day from 1.00pm.
