Pink
Adelaide Entertainment Centre
Sunday April 22
Two words summarise the Adelaide leg of Pink's 'I'm Not Dead' tour at the Entertainment Centre on Sunday April 22: bloody awesome!
Supporting act The Androids rocked the Centre and put on an electrifying performance, featuring songs such as Here She Comes and several new ones that will feature on their upcoming album like Pop Music and Teenage Romeo. The boisterous performance mixed with the aesthetic fiery tiger fur pattered backdrop built anticipation for a massive party. And a big party is what Pink provided as what followed was an exciting, dynamic exhibition, commencing from the first moment she emerged on stage, oozing every bit of her trademark attitude.
Before her entrance however, a trio of monk-like characters appeared from a hidden door on the catwalk that ran through the middle of the audience. Accompanied with a slow throbbing, echoing beat, the packed house eagerly awaited a massive entrance from Pink, who appeared with a bang at the top of the stairs that centred the stage, opening with 'Cuz I Can. Wearing a skimpy version of a police uniform, she descended to the end of the catwalk where her dancers waved 'Pink' flags like cheerleaders.
Pink let it show how much fun she was having on stage throughout the performance, laughing and mucking around with crew and even rolling on the ground during Just Like A Pill. Although I knew all of the songs, it really dawned on me just how many brilliant tracks Pink has, old and new. I was also surprised by how strong her vocals were, as I had previously wondered if her edgy, rock voice would live up to expectations live. Pink really aroused enthusiasm as she hammed up Stupid Girl just as she does in the music video but then changed the tone of the show and her costume into a hippy inspired white dress and headscarf. She sang The One That Got Away and Dear Mr President at the end of the glowing catwalk in what she said was her adaptation of a campsite.
True to her word, Pink can really Get The Party Started. Perhaps the show could've done without so many costume changes, as Pink left the stage often. Finishing at about 11.40pm, it was also disappointing that the show fell way short of two hours. This aside, Pink awed everyone with her theatrical displays including being wrapped up and elevated in a net and re entering after a costume change at the top of the stairs on a motorbike that lifted from a hole in the floor during You And Your Hand. The finale was celebrated by Pink once again being lifted from the stage, as she and her dancers swung above the audience on fabric ropes while being showered in a flurry of confetti. A breathtaking climax, the fantastic display had everyone up dancing and hungry for more.
