Black Strobe
A Remix Selection
Playloudrecordings
Parisian duo Arnaud Rebotini and Ivan Smegghe have released a number of singles in the area of acid techno and industrial music over the past ten years. Beyond this, they've also remixed music by an extremely diverse range of artists, and it is the latter side of their work that forms the basis for 'A Remix Selection,' a prelude to their soon-to-be-released debut album. The ten tracks included here vary from sharp electronic pop musicians Depeche Mode to British rockers Bloc Party. Even a remix of Rammstein's Keine Lust - one of the darkest and most enthralling tracks on the album - makes its way onto Black Strobe's remix compilation.
It's testament to the talents of Rebotini and Smegghe that such a diverse selection of songs, remixed over such a wide period of time, can be shoehorned into such a cohesive electronic album. This remains true even if a few of the tracks, such as their mix of Caretta, Hacker and Millimetric's Moscow Reisen simply don't stand out as much. On the occasions where the tracks blend into the background, they never begin to grate. Besides, those occasions are rare enough to make this an ideal album for anyone feeling a little jaded with the repetition prevalent in most house and trance music to grace the radio. On top of that, it's an ideal album to play at high volume.
