Prize Frenzy™!

t's cold and it's wet and it's been raining all night, sang the Bangles many a moon ago. But are the farmers happy? That's the burning question for many this week but Frenzette(tm) has been so busy scouring the sodden country for shiny things for your nest, she's simply shaken the dew from her wings and paid scant attention to farming types. And what has she brought you? Check it out below then call 8231 0881 at 1pm on Friday 4 May and stake your claim:

1. Now you have to ring on Thursday for this one - okay? 'Cause the gig's on Thursday night - geddit? New Buffalo, and this time out we have two CDs and a double pass to the gig... all thanks to Remote Control. New Buffalo plays Jive on Thurs 3 May with Laura Jean, and that's all you need to know. Except, of course, you need to be there. Ring at one. PM that is.

2. Thirsty Merc perform at HQ on Sun 3 June with Old Man River and The Hampdens. That's a fair way away, but you can be one of the very first in SA to reserve your tickets - by winning through dB Magazine. 'Slideshows' is out now through Warner, and if you don't get the tickets you could win a copy of the CD, thanks to Warner Music.

3. The super good Josh Pyke performs on Sat 12 May at The Gov, and we have three double passes to his gig, thanks to the fine folk at Liberation. His album 'Memories & Dust' is out now on that very fine record label, too.

4. Behind Crimson Eyes, you can read about them in the fine article by Will Oakeshott. They perform at Fowlers Live on Sun 13 May with In Fiction, and probably will belt out a number of the songs from their album 'Scream Out Your Name To The Night'. Thanks to the Staple Group and BCE we have three double passes for the gig to hand over. That's a good move!

5. Stephen House's 'Vin' performs at Jive as part of ComeOut from Tues 8 May. Alex Wheaton interviews House and two of the cast in this issue, and we have three double passes to this play up for grabs. The tickets are for Wed 9 or Thurs 10 May, you chose the night which suits.

6. 67 Special have dug deep into the bag of plenty which always travels with them when they're on tour (it gets kept in the back corner of the Tarago under the discarded VB tinnies, Styrofoam cups and Macca's packaging) and found some double passes to their gig at Jive on Sat 5 May with The Exploders and Swayback. You know they'll probably have a lash at their single Killer Bees (Warners) on the night? Well, thanks to the band you have two chances at being there with a friend.

7. Mark Liebelt pulls on the cloak of invisibility and tracks down blues musician Jeff Lang to a seedy suburb of Paris... good work Liebelt! In the ensuing interview he got the Jeff Lang lowdown, and discovered that Lang plays The Gov on Sun 13 May, and that his album 'Prepare Me Well' is out this week on ABC Roots through Warner Music. Thanks to Annie Johnson Publicity and the good natured Jeff Lang, dB Magazine now has five double passes to the gig at the Gov. How special? Pretty twangin' slidin' rootsy special, that's what.

8. Harold Pinter's 'The Birthday Party' opens in the Queens Theatre (off Light Square) on Sat 5 May, in a production from the inestimable Flying Penguin Productions. Thanks to the generosity of the Penguin, you can win a double pass to see this seminal play this Fri 4 May. We have five double passes to give away.

9. The Amity Affliction play Enigma on Sat 5 May, and we have a very very limited double pass for that there gig, thanks to AMB. Will Oakeshott gets the lowdown on the band elsewhere in this magazine should you need to know more.

10. Ryan Shaw's debut CD is entitled, somewhat unsurprisingly, 'This Is Ryan Shaw'. It's out now on SonyBMG, and Alex Wheaton gets to grips with it in the CD review pages. He reckons it's okay, so too does SonyBMG, and they've handed over five copies to give away. You be the judge.

11. There's also, thanks to the fantastic folk at Inertia - three copies of The Cops brand new CD 'Drop It In Their Laps'. Lauren Boxhall thinks it hits the spot, see if you agree.

12. Finally, The Hilltop Hoods power their way into hip-hop legend with their once only performance with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra on Sat 12 May at the Ent Cent. Thanks to Obese Records we have five copies of the remix CD 'The Hard Road Restrung' to give away. There's something pretty special about that.

ONLINE FRENZY

This fortnight's extra special online only Frenzy: Our own Steve Jones speaks with Rob Hirst of The Ghostwriters in this very issue, and your question is: Which two other bands have Ghostwriters' members Rob Hirst, Martin Rotsey and Rick Grossman (not necessarily together) most famously belonged to? Send your answer, along with your name & number to frenzy@dbmagazine.com.au for your chance to win a copy of The Ghostwriters new album 'Political Animal', thanks to SonyBMG.
