Funk music has been one of the musical genres that have been perhaps slept on by many promoters and record industries, particularly in Australia. Thankfully, independent groups like Funk Club Inc are pushing this genre to the fore, which many Western Australian funk artists will be grateful for. To help showcase WA's up and coming artists in this growing scene, Funk Club Inc has released this eight track compilation that is sure to tickle and stimulate every single funked up bone in your body.

This release opens strongly with the nasty soul funk of Lysistrata's Hold'n Strong which shows why they have supported such heavyweight soul and funk acts as Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, and The Bamboos. Those after a different feel will appreciate the hip-hop break beat funk of Fdel's Get Up On Your Feet, which is reminiscent of the stylings of the one time break beat favourite Wiseguys. On a similar vein is Lake Of Bass' cheeky Devil's Washing Machine but it is just a shame that the lead vocals/rap comes across more sleazy and try hard, rather than streetwise. Definite highlights are the dance floor boogie of Thrust's Feel That Rhythm that does nothing but make you want to dance, and the smooth soul jazzy blues of The Roast's Booty.

Thanks to a Contemporary Music Grant, Funk Club Inc is taking its music on the road and further extending the scope of Western Australia funk music. Along with featured bands Lysistrata and The Crux, it will also feature DJs Loco Ren and Charlie Bucket. This release is definitely just a taster of things to come and as such, the main meal is something to look forward to.
