A Prisoner's Dilemma
Bohemian Productions

This is very intriguing subject matter - the prisoner's dilemma. Do you say nothing and trust that your fellow inmate will to or do you break the silence before he does, condemning him more but saving your own skin?

In this production the performers David Finnigan and Jack Lloyd play the roles of the prisoners attempting to find the answer to this question. Their performances are a little pushed and sometimes its hard to understand what they're saying/doing and why. The prisoner scene is broken up by interactive games that are centred on the prisoner's dilemma, gaining instant test subjects in the audience. Also, as part of these interactive games there's a robot!

This all sounds pretty exciting to me: robots, games and theatre but it doesn't quite meld into a solid outcome. The tests (or games) come up suddenly and with either no or limited explanation. I understand that they don't want to give away the clues as to what to do but unless more information is given to the audience they won't interact and then leave the boys on stage with nothing. Then the robot is a let down and not just because of the uncontrollable technological problems. Go see this if you're into big sociological questions!
