Andrew McClelland's Mix Tape
The Garden Shed
Thurs 8 March
Until Tues 20 March

The art of compiling a not only good but effective mixed tape should never be taken lightly. Andrew McClelland knows that, and in his latest show he takes us behind the process and hilariously reveals more about himself and his musical acumen than what's necessary.

After all, the rules of a good compilation state that you should be both honest and, in order to further gain the interest of your intended beau, hedge your bets by being as varied as possible without ever losing focus or continuity.

From Motown to the wide-world of Metal, from Synth-pop to The Smiths, McClelland masterfully evens out his selections in a show that tells of his obvious penchant towards the more cerebral choices but without denying us the likes of The Jackson 5, Europe's The Final Countdown and The Monkees.

Here is a former English teacher who verbosely admits to scissor kicking to Stevie Wonder and challenging unruly students (just like the ones who used to beat him up when he went to school) to MC battles, and has esoterically hinged much of his reasoning for the tape showcased here on an obscure twelve minute instrumental. It's no secret that I'm a big fan of McClelland, and this new show will definitely make my mix of favourite festival performances this year.
