Funkstorung
Appendix
!K7/Inertia

What is electronic music? Perhaps the one true genre of music that easily transgresses into other genres, it is hard to define the true form of electronic music. And how could you, with many musicians making use of the tremendous growth of technology and incorporating its versatility into their music. If there is an artist or group that best personifies the essence of electronic music, Funkstorung has to be a strong consideration. Their productions are truly unique, but what is more astounding is how they have also made the art of remixing their very own, with a smorgasbord of artists - including, Bjork, Wu-Tang Clan and Jean-Michel Jarre - going to Funkstorung for an injection of their signature sound. But sadly, after twelve years of musical innovation, the pair of Chris De Luca and Michael Fakesch have decided to disband with this, their third remix album, marking their final release.

Digging through their master tapes and computer files 'Appendix' is an opportunity for Funkstorung and their fans to take stock and look back at their interesting careers and, in the process, showcase their mastery of the electronic art. Their remix of Spacek's 1st Stroke is haunting and moody, but is still a demure album opener. It is not until you hit their second remix of Bjork's All Is Full Of Love that your ears prick up and marvel at how Funkstorung can make a collection of noises sound so beautiful. The broken beat, distorted funk of Lusine ICL's Sustain, the big beat rock guitar specimen of Enik's No Fire and Towa Tei's hi-tech hip-hop of Latte And Macaron particularly show the breadth of production versatility that Funkstorung possesses. They even have some pop sensibility through their remix of Beanfield's Close To You.

Electronic music will definitely be at a loss at Funkstorung's disbandment. If their solo careers can amass works of similar quality, then the grieving process may be smoother. But in the meantime, put this album in your CD player, crank it up and enjoy.
