Metal News.
A final reminder that melodic punk band Strike Anywhere - who hail from Richmond, Virginia - will be appearing at the Enigma Bar on Thurs 8 March. Supporting the band at their all-ages show will be locals (and national supports!) Stolen Youth and God So Loved The World. Doors open at 7:30 pm.
Unfortunately, one act from Boston who won't be appearing at Fowler's Live this month, despite originally having a show scheduled there, will be thrash band Toxic Holocaust, whose eagerly-awaited (well, by me anyway) gig at the above venue on Friday the 9th has been cancelled.
In a happier bit of news, it now appears that fans of both Sodom and Nile won't have to choose between them when they come out here after all. Although both groups were originally supposed to play on the same night (Fri 25 May), Sodom's show has now been pushed back to Mon 11 June. And, whaddya know, the German thrashers will be playing at Fowler's too.
Recently, I discovered an interesting Net-based radio program from Canada entitled 'Radioactive Metal'. Podcast from Winnipeg, Manitoba, it's the brainchild of Dario Sycco and Snowy White, two 30-something metalheads who devote most of each episode to irreverent discussion of some metal-related topic or other. Because of its unusual talk-based format, it obviously won't be everyone's goblet of goat's blood, but it really is worth checking out for some fascinating, and often very funny, discussions on metal. The show also contains an 'independent spotlight' section in which independent bands from around the world get a plug and a play; bands worldwide (and that could include yours) are invited to submit material for this. The show usually airs on a fortnightly basis and most episodes have been archived. To check it out, go to www.radioactivemetal.net
In the obligatory end-of-column band plug; Adolf Satan is from Boston, and the line-up includes two members of the notorious Anal Cunt: Josh Martin and Nate Linehan. Describing themselves as "A fist in the face of good taste and sobriety; a perfect soundtrack for every hangover, for every breakup, for every back alley abortion," they sum their material up as "Antisocial music, played by scumbags, for scumbags." Check them out at www.myspace.com/adolfsatan666.
