Metal News.
Locals Hekyl will be appearing at a number of shows over the next few weeks. On Fri 24 November, the group will be playing with Judge Mental and Tony Font Show at the Lizard Lounge (doors open at 9 pm), while on Fri 1 December, they'll be appearing at an all-ages gig at the Reynella Youth Arts Centre with Madbatch, Sleeper Channel and more... Doors open at 7 pm for that one. Finally, they'll also be doing a show with Fear In Dakota at the Jade Monkey on Fri 8 December. For those unfamiliar with them, band drummer Jon sums up their approach as follows: "[We] like to mix many genres and time signatures into one song [to form] a cool mix of metal, hardcore-ish, funk and much more."
Taking place at the Enigma Bar on Fri 24 November, this month's War Room will feature locals Imminent Psychosis, Omnium, Diatribe and Truth Corroded, as well as interstate visitors Terrorust, who hail from 'Hellbourne' (ho ho). The event will be for the over-18 crowd only and doors open at 9 pm. On the subject of Terrorust, this band is essentially a renamed Damaged, its line-up including Matt 'Skitz' Sanders and James 'Jayme' Ludbrooke. Their appearance at the War Room will be the first of two visits they'll be making here in the coming weeks; the second will be on Tues 12 December, when they'll be joining New Zealand's Dawn of Azazel in supporting Deicide at HQ (the nightspot formerly known as Heaven II). To get an idea of what they sound like, go to www.myspace.com/aussiemetal.
On the subject of another band who'll be playing at the latest War Room, Diatribe will be making another couple of appearances soon. On Sat 2 December, as part of a tour called Highway To Hell, they'll be appearing at a licensed all-ages show at the West Whyalla Football Club; also playing at this will be Double Dragon, Truth Corroded, Skintilla, A Classic Tragedy and Whyalla band This Drowning Misery. Doors open at 6 pm. On Thurs 7 December, they'll be returning to the Enigma Bar for a show with Sunk Loto and Tidal. Doors open at 8 pm for this one.
For those who've somehow managed to miss all the full-page ads for it in this publication, there'll be a show at HQ on Fri 1 December featuring Norway's Satyricon, the band behind such classic black metal releases as 'The Shadowthrone' and 'Nemesis Divina'. Supporting the band will be Tasmanian black metal outfit Ruins, whose line-up includes the Haley brothers from Psycroptic. Doors open at 8 pm.
This December, Australian metal and hardcore label Resist Records will be doing a national tour that'll consist of a series of shows in various cities, each show featuring a different lineup of bands signed to the label. Adelaide will get two shows - both licensed all-ages and both held at the Enigma Bar - on Sat 16 and Sun 17 December, respectively. Both will feature Carpathian and Miles Away, while Saturday's show will also feature The Dead Walk! and Bad Blood. Cry Murder and God So Loved The World will complete Sunday's lineup.
Finally, the obscure band to check out this fortnight is a seven-piece gothic outfit from Belgium with the unusual name of Sad Siberia. Forming only last year, they've already put out a four-track EP, 'The Darkness Of Light', the entire contents of which can be found at www.myspace.com/sadsiberia.
