The Seduction Code
The Seduction Code
Independent
When I first put on Adelaide's The Seduction Code, I was in heaven - heavy-as-fuck riffing with melody, reminiscent of bands like Budd and Kyuss. I don't think they were tuned down as low and it wasn't quite as heavy, but there was definitely some stoner rock in there. Instead of sporadic, almost softly-spoken vocals as with Budd and Kyuss, the song literally opened up with straight-up hardcore screams which strangely enough suited the song.
Then (in my very humble opinion) the band moved the song in a direction it didn't need and shouldn't have gone by experimenting with rhythms usually found in a pop-punk or rock song. I just wanted to hear more of that heavy riff. Luckily, it returned and I was happy again.
The second track Dark Romance is way closer to the mark - because essentially they're a riff-driven heavy band, they're allowed to keep it simple, loud or soft, so you can just sit back, relax and enjoy the pounding melody abusing your ears. However, I wasn't really a fan of the 'Chilli Peppers-esque guitar intro/outro as the song just didn't need it and probably suffered a bit from it.
On the final track, Change The Tempo, they change genres a bit as the name suggests, which admittedly suits the screaming vocals a bit better. It's a mid-tempo riffing, new hardcore and in-parts rocky-sounding track.
Overall, this is well worth a listen. My only criticism is they've put too much in their songs, maybe thinking that something so simple as the first riff would have been enough to sustain a song. But with a few build-ups and some louder bits, it would have sounded great.
I didn't have any cringing moments where I thought that the production was bad which is usually a good indication that it was up to scratch. They're a band I'll definitely check out live if I get the chance.
