Cut Copy
Fabriclive.29
Fabric/Inertia

Electro house, indie dance, punk dance, even new-romantic house, what ever you wanna call it, this new breed of dance music has taken off with the likes of Mogwai, Tiefschwarz, Goldfrapp and Tiga bringing the genre to the fore and setting the standard. Cut Copy is perhaps one of the best Australian figures of the genre, and who better to be the first Australian to host a compilation from the series of renowned dance label Fabric.

Cut Copy does not disappoint, delivering a balance of well-known hits, as well as over-looked tracks, cramming in 25 of them in one CD (well 24 really, with the final track - Cut Copy's own Dream Sequence - being more of an outro than anything else).

But before I move any further, I have to admit that I am probably not the biggest fan of this genre; I lean towards more up-tempo, soulful and melodic house/dance music. However, with that in mind, I still found this compilation quite appealing with DFA's remix of Goldfrapp's Slide In, Mstrkrft's Work On You and the incredibly smooth Shadows by Midnight Juggernauts particularly striking a pleasing chord.

Cut Copy also include other Aussie representations in the mix, with The Presets' Truth And Lies and a rebirth of the all-time classic from Severed Heads: Dead Eyes Opened. And as expected, Cut Copy tracks make an appearance with Future Unlimited and the Whitey remix of Going Nowhere.

Cut Copy fans will love this mix that the boys have come up with for the Fabric compilation series. It is definitely a more than adequate appetizer for the follow-up of their successful debut album 'Bright Like Neon Love.' So if you can't wait for the main course, get a taste of this, it will surely leave you hungry for more.
