Metal News.
If you like your metal in-your-face and more than a little offensive, you will not want to miss this month's War Room, which will be headlined by Sydney grind maniacs Ebolie (whose last appearance here, in mid-2004, featured the unforgettable sight of one of the band members filling his artificial leg with beer and giving it to a lucky audience member to drink from). Taking place at the Enigma Bar on Fri 29 September, the show will also feature locals Omnium, Russell Crowbar, Leather Messiah and Meat Wallet. Doors open at 9 pm.
A reminder that Murder Hill will be launching their debut album, 'Forest Of The Eternal Slaughter', at the Lizard Lounge (Light Square) on Sat 30 September, with support from Blood Mason. Doors open at 8:30 pm.
On Mon 9 October, Cannibal Corpse will be doing an all-ages show at Fowler's Live with Tasmania's Psycroptic and Western Australia's Plague, while later in the month, there will be shows at the same venue featuring Arch Enemy, Crucified Barbara, Soulfly and Nevermore, respectively. More details on these other shows in the next column.
Speaking of overseas acts coming out here, America's The Black Dahlia Murder will be doing an 18+ show at the Adelaide UniBar on Wed 18 November, with support from Western Australians Pathogen and Dyscord. Also, I've heard rumours of a Deicide tour happening in December. If these prove true, it'll be the first time that band has come out here since 1995, when they put on a memorably violent show at the Tivoli Hotel.
On Tues 10 October, The Governor Hindmarsh's famed monthly Tight Arse Tuesday event will feature a metal line-up, with Victorian visitors Blank Expression sharing the stage with locals The Rivalry, The Jonestown Syndicate, Abandon All Hope and Forever Dies Now. Doors open at 7 pm for the all-ages event, entry to which will set you back a mere $3.00.
As always, some interstate bands will soon be coming our way as well. Three such bands - New South Wales' Switchblade and Vaticide, as well as Victoria's Black Like Vengeance - will be coming over for the big all-ages Southern Apocalypse II, to be held at the Lizard Lounge on Sat 21 October. Supporting the visitors will be locals Murder Hill, Double Dragon, Blood Mason, Imminent Psychosis and The Guantanamo Bay City Rollers, as well as Captain Cleanoff, whose membership comprises people from both here and across the border.
Meanwhile, over in Melbourne with label-mates Truth Corroded last June, locals Double Dragon made a video for Dead But Still Killing, one of the songs on their new EP, 'Scars Of Fire'. Shot with the assistance of Raw Sound Industries, the clip can be seen by going to the band's myspace page, www.myspace.com/doubledragonheavymetal. In other news relating to the band, they will be doing a tour of Perth this summer.
In more local news, Raven Black Night have re-pressed their debut album, 'Choose The Dark', copies of which can be purchased at the band's next appearance: a show at the Lizard Lounge on Sat 14 October, which will also feature Slaughter Thou, Pitch Fork, Obsidian Aspect and Cauldron Black Ram, as well as Melbourne's Dominion. Raven Black Night will also be going over to Melbourne later in October (to do a show at The Tote with Gospel Of The Horns on the 20th) and hope to play overseas next year.
We've had a pretty good response so far to last issue's call-out for new metal writers, but we'd still like to hear from any other folk who have a passion for metal and an ability to convey that passion via the written word. If you'd be interested in writing for the magazine, show us your talents by writing an album review (of around 250-300 words, on absolutely anything you like) and send it to Nina Bertok, care of nina@dbmagazine.com.au.
