Adelaide's very own Nereeda and Suzi's Backyard will be playing at the Jade Monkey on Thurs 14 September on the back of what has already been a fantastic year for the two. Puff is told that both bands are currently in the studio working on EPs due out early next year, so this will be a chance for punters to check out both old and new tunes.
After winning their heat at the UniSA band competition, Quiet Child will join seven other local acts to compete in the State Finals which are being held at the Governor Hindmarsh on Thurs 14 September. Quiet Child will also be making an appearance at the Crown And Anchor on Fri 15 September with locals Stop The Guards and Double Handed.
Meanwhile, you can get down and funky at the Governor Hindmarsh on Fri 15 September when Dr. Teeth support local super-funk heroes Goose.
Ned Collette will be packing up his guitar and pedals and hitting the road next month to launch his new album 'Jokes And Trials' across the country. Falling under the influence of Leonard Cohen, Robert Wyatt and Cat Power, the album has been described as "Nothing short of exemplary," by The Age and given four stars by Big Issue. Catch Ned at the album's launch on Thurs 21 September at the Prince Albert Hotel, with dB's own Lenin Simos, as well as in support of Holly Throsby at the Jade Monkey on Fri 22 September.
Puff hears that Adelaide's latest urban punk/rock hybrid Trixie Plain are on a mission to colour the East End with their noisy goodness this Fri 15 September at the Exeter (Rundle St.) with 200 Motels, followed by Sat 16 September at the Crown And Anchor with Love Stereo. The band features semi-scene stalwarts W. Shane 'smash-off' Forster on drums and vocals (Angelik, Luke Ashby Band, Sweeper) and Linden 'Colonel' Starr on guitars and vocals (The LC3s, Pinata, The Hedonists from Perth) among other random players, so be sure to catch them live on their mini circus jaunt to see why they aren't just an angry font of a name.
The darlings of the local alternative country music scene, The Dolls are launching their first ever full-length album 'If I Were A Much Better Wife' on Sat 16 September at the Wheatsheaf Hotel. Partly funded by an ArtsSA grant and featuring original music by Charlotte Mudge, Lissy Elliott and Bronwyn Gell, the new album will no doubt fire up the Wheaty with its red hot, rollicking tunes and slow-baked ballads.
Melbourne's MPC/turntablist duo Low Def are visiting Adelaide for an unmissable one-night-only performance at the Rocket Bar's Sookie Sookie on Sat 16 September after slaving away in the studio for the last month to bring us a show featuring remixes, mash-ups and blends of some of the greatest hip-hop you're going to hear in a while.
Adelaide rockers Tony Font Show are launching their brand new EP 'Secret Steps' on Sat 16 September at Jive along with Brisbane's Transport and The Beards, while Risemann are launching a CD of their own at the Cabaret Cafe on the same night after supporting The Beautiful Girls on their Darwin dates.
Singer/songwriter Robby is set to play at the Jade Monkey on Sun 17 September to launch her new EP 'Happy In My Skin' with support from Joshua Spier.
Sure to be a treat for the metalheads, on the other hand, Liv Kristine's Leaves' Eyes are heading down for a show at Fowler's Live on Tue 19 September along with German heavyweights Atrocity, while true legends of the New York hardcore scene, Madball, are also back once again. After recently unleashing their most ambitious release yet, 'Legacy', the band will be hitting our shores on Wed 20 September at Fowler's Live, along with Stronghold and locals God So Loved The World, for an all ages show.
Playing on the night is also one lovely Princess Superstar who is currently already in the country - you can check her out at the Electric Light Hotel before she jets off to New Zealand.

Something For Kate are embarking on their national Desert Lights Tour, which will see the band showcase their new album in Adelaide on Sun 24 September at HQ along with special guests Expatriate and Denmark's Kashmir for the band's only Adelaide show.
The Fumes are about to kick off on their Guns Of Gold Tour after their album debuted at number five on the AIR chart during the first week of its release. After supporting the likes of Cog, Ash Grunwald, The Beautiful Girls and Dallas Crane over the last year, the band are coming to Adelaide for their album launch on Sat 23 September at Jive with special guest Old Man River. Southpaw, Fighterpilot, Rejusa and Stryder are going to rock your long weekend with a big live and local showcase at Jive on Fri 29 September, while the night will also see the Semaphore Musical festival feature the likes of The Hillbilly Hoot Allstars at the Palais Deck, The Dolls and The Glenn Skuthorpe Band at the Semaphore Workers Club and Raw Honey and The VJ Band at the Semaphore Hotel. Glenn Skuthorpe, especially will be extremely busy over the long weekend with performances also taking place on Sun 1 October at the free concert on the Foreshore Reserve and at the Federal Hotel later that night.
Local psychedelic four-piece, Lady Strangelove, sure are keeping busy, too. The band will not only be supporting Wolf And Cub on the back of their album launch at the Rocket Bar on Sat 7 October, but will be launching their own debut EP the week before at the said venue on Sat 30 September. Support on the night will be Counterfeit Traitor.
Head down to the West Beach skate ramp on Africain Road, West Beach on Sat 30 September for the The Riot-Orf vertical skateboard contest, which will feature some of South Australia's best skaters getting together to tear it up between 1 and 5 pm. The event is also part rock show, featuring Pigsteerer, Los Diablos, NFI and The Meatbeaters at 8 pm at Fowler's Live. Entry is $10 and there will be prizes up for grabs.

Congrats to local boys Straight 2 The Ace, currently the pride of Adelaide after winning a coveted spot on stage playing in front of thousands of screaming music fans at the Coca Cola Live'n'Local Tour 06. After recently touring across Western Australia and the Northern Territory on the back of their self-titled debut EP, Straight To The Ace are gaining some serious attention in the Australian music scene. The band are now one of the five unsigned acts chosen out of 200 national entries by expert pannelists such as Spiderbait's Kram, Video Hits Senior Producer Rachel Moor and MCM Entertainment Program Director Scott Stewart. So, where to from here for the boys? Well, Puff hears that it's far from over yet, as the public will get to vote for their favourite band who will then go on to write and record with Mushroom Music's Bill Page. Audiences will have a chance to vote for the Adelaide boys by logging onto www.coca-cola.com.au before Mon 25 September and will also get to see them live when the Coca Cola tour kicks off in late October.
Dubbed "The second coming of Prince or Frank Zappa", Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti has announced his supports in the form of an all-star Australian backing band of Lewis Boyes and Dan Luscombe (Dan Kelly And The Alpha Males), Shags (The Smallgoods), as well as Clue To Kalo and Lindsay Low Hand on Thurs 5 October at the Rocket Bar.
Melbourne three-piece Stovetop are on their way to Adelaide for not one, but three nights of groovyness as part of their Flaming Soul tour. Catch them at the Semaphore Workers Club on Fri 6 October, followed by the Wheatsheaf Hotel on Sat 7 October and at the Gibson's Winery on Sun 8 October along with special guests John Baker Duo. The band have recently released their new CD titled 'Now, Now' so make sure to head along and check them out.
After the release of 'Dead Wood Falls' and after being confirmed to perform at CoastFest, The Portland Bay Festival and The Falls Festival, one of Australia's most sought-after artists, Jen Cloher, is ready to kick off her national tour in support of Josh Pyke throughout October. Catch the two at the Governor Hindmarsh on Wed 11 October.
Get set to witness the greatest musicians from around the world display their talents when TommyFest makes its way to Her Majesty's Theatre on Wed 11 October. Thanks to the brainchild of guitar legend Tommy Emmanuel, Adelaide is set to be introduced to Australia's "Best of the best," according to the man himself. Guests will include jazz guru Martin Taylor, gypsy jazz virtuosos Joscho Stephan Trio and ukulele master Janke Shimabukuro.
Love Outside Andromeda's highly-anticipated tour is not far away either, with the guys making an appearance at the Governor Hindmarsh on Fri 20 October.
Meanwhile, fresh from signing an international deal with Roadrunner Records and after taking some time off earlier this year to write for their debut album, Behind Crimson Eyes are back and it's time for a shakedown, Puff is told. Sat 21 October is the date to mark in your diaries and the Enigma Bar is the venue which will see the band showcase their new single Shakedown, as well as give the fans a taste of what's to come from the upcoming debut album which will be hitting the stores in early November. Karma Country's front-man Brendan Gallagher steps into the spotlight with his debut solo album 'On Eve St' with the announcement of his first ever national solo tour. Catch him at Fowler's Live on Fri 27 October. Meanwhile, Mountains In The Sky are celebrating the release of their second collection of magical sonic tone poems, 'Accipio', with a launch tour that will see them in Adelaide on the same night at the Rocket Bar.
Known for their energetic live shows and unstoppable work ethic, Maine's Outbreak are coming to Australia on their headlining tour later this year, along with Perth's Miles Away who are releasing their new 7" 'Brainwashed' later this month. Catch them at the Enigma Bar on Wed 1 November for an all ages show.
Welcome back The Cat Empire who will be making their way back to Adelaide after an extremely busy year which has included tours around three continents that saw the band playing 45 dates in 12 countries, as well as score US and Canadian deals with Velour Records and Indica, respectively. See the feline spectacle on Thurs 30 November at the Thebarton Theatre.
Puff wants all you Rise Against fans to know that the band's Sun 3 December show at Fowler's Live is no longer going to take place in the venue itself, but in the greater capacity courtyard as the show has been sold out.
