Peaches
Impeach My Bush
XL Recordings/Remote Control
She is back - bigger, bolder than ever and still ridin' high on her electro, sex-rock vibe. And why dismount? Since 'Fatherfucker', her second long-player, Peaches has been signed to XL Recordings and has shacked up in LA with 'Impeach My Bush' being definitely more west coast-inspired. She has Josh Homme and Joan Jett guesting for her and the songs are receiving national airplay, but Peaches has not let up in the provocative, gender-bending sex talk.
Tent In Your Pants is a case in point - a hilarious ride through grinding, minimalist R'n'B which turns the tables on what is usually the black man's domain - crass matter of fact adulation and objectification of booty, complete with farcical rhyme. Downtown shows a girl electronic pop influence, injecting the saccharine sound with more subtle innuendo, but Two Guys (For Every Girl) is more direct, the sound matching the title with the more familiar Peaches dark beat-box sound.
Peaches crew of fans and collaborators on 'Impeach My Bush' (pun intended) also include alternative favourite Beth Ditto from Gossip and Feist alongside the big names. She co-produced with a couple of seasoned alterno-producers in Toto drummer Jeff Pecaro's studio - the LA pad comes with pool and lux house and one can almost hear the party going on in the hot pauses between her cold beats. The rock is accelerated on 'Impeach My Bush', climaxing with You Love It, where she duets with Joan Jett and Give 'Er, which puts Homme to good use, the frenetic beat and riff instilling some southern metal flavours we haven't previously heard from the formerly Berlin-based artist. It heralds a northern summer tour supporting Nine Inch Nails with Peaches' first full rock band and dates with Eagles Of Death Metal - what a show that would be! Peaches takes on the mainstream on her own terms and continues to be true to her seriously-playful agenda of sex/dance confusion, but can you dance to it? Of course. Peaches is still taking everyone down on her way up and it is more exciting than ever.
