Puff'n'Stuff
Those of you who made your way down to see Gyroscope Sat 22 and Sun 23 July may have got a rude shock upon discovering that both of the shows were unfortunately cancelled without warning! Puff has been told that 'Gyro frontman and guitarist Daniel Sanders came down with an especially severe case of tonsillitis, not unlike the one back in 2004 when the band were forced to cancel two support slots with Blink 182. The good news is, however, that the Gyro boys will be making a comeback to Adelaide with rescheduled shows set to take place once again at the Adelaide Uni Bar on Sat 26 and Sun 27 August, though no supports have been confirmed yet. Puff is also happy to inform you that pre-sale ticket holders to the called-off shows will still be valid - so turn that frown upside down!
Otherwise, it seems New Zealand boys The Bleeders are growing quite fond of our little town of Adelaide - you can catch them not only on Tue 8 August at the Governor Hindmarsh with Western Australia's Alleged, Liability Of My Own, With Dying Words and The Radio Sound Salvation, but also with The Jones Town Syndicate, Alleged and Prevail on Wed 9 August at Fowler's Live. On Sat 12 August they will play at the Enigma Bar with Realist Few, A Death In The Family and Black Lodge Sounds.
Some huge news that's sure to please the local bands and punters alike is the grand opening and re-launch of The Ambassador Hotel on 107 King William Street on Fri 4 August. Puff has been told that the hotel has vowed to heavily promote local bands and artists and generally give the live music scene a kick up the bum. There will be free entry from 8:30 pm on the opening night, with Adelaide's hard-rockers Liquid Phoenix helping The Ambassador get back on the road to being a great live music venue.
Something With Numbers have announced their tour which will take place at The Basement on Fri 25 August and will be an all-ages event. Supporting the band on the night are those busy New Zealand boys The Bleeders, Mere Theory and Nazarite Vow.
Puff hears that hallucinatory-pop artist, Los Angeles-native Ariel Pink, has also announced an upcoming tour with an all-star Australia backing band as well as a support slot from Clue To Kalo on Thurs 5 October at the Rocket Bar. Ariel's album 'House Arrest' is also due for release on Fri 1 September through Mistletone Records.
Don't forget that Dan Kelly And The Alpha Males are making their way to Adelaide to celebrate their long-awaited second album release, 'Drowning In The Fountain Of Youth' on Sat 12 August at Jive.
In more happy news, Puff is chuffed to announce that The Sleepy Jackson are heading our way in early September for the 'Personality' album tour. The band have managed to debut at Number 10 on the ARIA Album Chart and Puff is told that the album is receiving praises not only nationally, but internationally with its release in the UK, North America, throughout Europe and South East Asia. Currently finishing off a tour overseas, The Sleepy Jackson will be in Adelaide on Sat 9 September and will play at the Adelaide Uni Bar.
Actually, now that Puff thinks about it, September is looking to be the month for awesome gigs, because The Drones are also making their way to Adelaide on Fri 22 September for a show at Jive along with special guests The Darling Downs before heading back overseas. Their Australian Music Prize-winning album 'Wait Long By The River And The Bodies Of Your Enemies Will Float By' has seen the band tour the US and Europe over the last year and a half, but now they are marking their return down under for the release of their third album 'Gala Mill' out in early September.
Also coming in September all the way from Boston, USA will be The Unseen, who will be making their first ever trip to Australia along with special guests The Disables from Brisbane. Witness the two tear the Enigma Bar apart on Thurs 7 September for an all-ages show.
A little earlier on will be Antiskeptic's Fri 4 August show at the Enigma Bar with Sumi and Move To Strike in support of Antiskeptic's new EP/DVD 'Monuments'. If you, like Puff, have been scratching your head and wondering where the hell the Antiskeptic guys had disappeared to lately, the answer is mainly recording and working on a whole new sound - look out for a heavy rock edge in the vein of Gyroscope and Behind Crimson Eyes.
If Puff was to tell you that Trafalgars, Adelaide supergroup The 2nds (featuring members of Traflgars, Russian Teammate and Brunatex), young brooding types The Petersons and buzzfuzz kids Pictureperfect were all playing a gig together, you'd be there in a flash, wouldn't you? Wouldn't you? You know you would. And you can, because along with the resurrected Russian Teammate, Sat 5 August will see the bands put on a show at Jive. And what a special show it will be too - members of The 2nds and Russian Teammate are bidding farewell to this fair city.
Meanwhile, Angelik, The Gels and Leigh Stardust are going to be kicking up a storm at the Prince Albert Hotel on Sat 12 August, as will the Jamie Oehlers Quartet on Sun 6 August, who were recently awarded the 2006 Bell Award for Best Contemporary Jazz Release for their album 'The Assemblers'. Catch them at the Governor Hindmarsh.

The Grace Emily Hotel will be hosting 'Country Sundays' every Sunday in August and presenting country music acts to the city punters. This Sun 6 August will see the alt-country rockers The Huckleberry Swedes and blues duo the D'Antonio Brothers play a show, while the following Sun 13 August will feature Bluegrass Junction supported by Kristal Collins. All shows are free entry and the pub opens at 3 pm with music starting at 4 pm.
Likewise, every Friday night starting from Fri 4 August will see Adelaide's freshest groove/funk/soul outfit The Daylight Underground performing alongside DJ Simon Booth and guests at the Glenelg Beach Hostel (1-7 Moseley St, Glenelg). There will be weekly drink specials, open fire, pool tables and live tunes.
Puff is also pleased to announce that Fear In Dakota are definitely back after the huge success of their single To My Knees, which not only made it to Number 1 on 3D's Top 20, but has also been on rotation on Nova and Triple J. The boys are launching their latest offering at the Jade Monkey on Sat 26 August with good mates Bedhed. Entry is only $6, or $15 with a CD, and doors open at 8 pm.
Puff has also been briefly told that local band Quiet Child are currently undergoing a line-up change, so stayed tuned for more info as it comes.
Meanwhile, it's going to be folk-and-roots-galore when Heather Frahn and Modulus team up for an acoustic show at the Wheatsheaf Hotel on Sat 5 August, following Frahn's recent completion of a solo tour in Victoria. Entry is free and doors open at 8:30 pm.
Puff has been told by the Panda Propaganda that The Panda Band is heading on the road around Australia this month, which will be largely in support of their upcoming album 'This Vital Chapter - We're Almost Not Even Here' out on Sat 5 August. You can catch The Panda band at the Rocket Bar on Fri 18 August.

You can also catch Line Of Departure when they support The Rip and Magentaline at the Glenelg Jetty Hotel on Sat 19 August.
Melbourne-based True Radical Miracle have been busy touring around the country over the last month and will be wrapping their tour up in Adelaide at the Rocket Bar on Fri 4 August to launch their third release, and full-length album with support slots from Hit The Jackpot and My Sister The Cop.
They put on one hell of a show when they toured with The Grates and inspired much fanaticism and now they're returning once again. That's right, it's I Heart Hiroshima who will be playing at the Enigma Bar on Thurs 31 August for a show not to be missed by any means!
Puff is also very pleased to inform you of some terrificly awesome news from The Living End camp.
