Metal News.
A reminder that two American acts will be doing all-ages shows at the Enigma Bar within the next week and a bit. On Fri 4 Aug, Ringworm will be playing with Mindsnare, The Dead Walk! and Stronghold, while on Fri 11 Aug, Municipal Waste will be performing with Captain Cleanoff, Los Diablos and The Guantanamo Bay City Rollers. Doors open at 7:30 pm for both shows.
Also within the next few days will be an unlicensed all-ages show at the Angaston Town Hall on Sat 5 Aug. Featuring local outfit Plug as well as Adelaide visitors Murder Hill and Blood Mason, the gig will start at 6:30 pm.
On Wed 9 Aug there will be an all-ages show at Fowler's Live featuring New Zealand's The Bleeders and Western Australia's Alleged, as well as locals The Jonestown Syndicate and Prevail. Doors open at 7 pm. This gig will be your last opportunity to see The Jonestown Syndicate for a couple of months, as they'll be devoting all of their time to interstate touring and writing material for an upcoming full-length album afterwards. If this isn't incentive enough to come along, band guitarist Joel Mazurek says, "Trust us, you will look tough going to a gig on a school night!"
In a tragic bit of local news that's best expressed, more-or-less, as it was given to me: "On the night of the 12th of July, Jeremy Lammas, the guitarist/co-founder of One Step Beyond, passed away as a result of a car accident. He brought a smile to the face of all who met him and will be greatly missed. He also performed in Raging Wireless and previously entertained people as a member of Raven Black Night and Oxygen. Memories, condolences and comments can be shared at www.myspace.com/onesteprockstar, www.geocities.com/onestepweb and www.ragingwireless.com." A memorial show for Jeremy featuring Blood Mason, Team Metal, Raven Black Night and One Step Beyond will be held at the Enigma Bar on Sun 13 Aug; doors open at 8 pm. All proceeds from the event will be donated to KIDSAFE (Child Accident Prevention Foundation of Australia).
Also on Sun 13 Aug will be an all-ages show at the Crown And Anchor Hotel featuring Diatribe, Murder Hill, Deafening Silence and Obsidian Aspect, as well as Western Australian visitors Pyromesh. Doors open at 4 pm.
On Fri 18 Aug, locals Quasar will be celebrating their first anniversary as a live act (as well as the birthdays of members Baraath and DMT-2K5) with a show at the Jade Monkey. Also featuring R. Domain, Obdurate Seduction and One Step Beyond, as well as special guest DJs, the show will start at 9 pm, and see the star act playing some songs of theirs that don't usually get an airing. Quasar will also be on the bill of Hellfire, an all-ages show in September that will also feature Tasmanians Psycroptic, as well as locals Stargazer, Darklord, The Rivalry, Sarsekim, Meat Wallet and Juggermath. More details on the second show closer to the date.
Local band Officer Down will be having a CD launch at the Bridgeway Hotel on Sat 2 Sep. The licensed all-ages show will start at 7 pm and feature, in order of appearance, UCD, Sydonia, A Red Dawn, Officer Down and Diatribe.
Finally, after having a nice, hearty rant in my last column about #@*%! overseas acts who seem to forget that Adelaide exists when they're planning their big Australian tours, it pleases me to mention a few bands from abroad who will be coming here over the next few months. In September we can expect to see Swedish act Dark Tranquillity and US band Madball, while fellow Americans Cannibal Corpse and Nevermore should be coming our way in October. More news on each tour closer to its respective date.
