Teddy Geiger
Underage Thinking

Columbia

For some weeks I kept hearing the song For You I Will (Confidence) on the radio but couldn't quite pick the singer. Later, discovering the vocals belonged to none other than 17-year-old Teddy Geiger, I was blown away. His debut album 'Underage Thinking' follows the single's same magnificent formula, Geiger playing various instruments, writing and singing with a maturity well beyond his years. Geiger is reminiscent of all of Jack Johnson, James Blunt and even Pete Murray. I dare even compare his gritty voice and honest delivery with that of John Mellencamp or Bruce Springsteen as 'Underage Thinking' is made of a similar recipe of simple rock pop with simple melodies and uncomplicated, traditional rock pop piano/guitar use. This is particularly evident in Air Dry and Night Air. Another appealing factor lies in Geiger's self-confidence. Young, but already forming a strong identity, he is convincing in his maturity on tracks like Look Where We Are Now and A Million Years but is true to his age with lyricisms detailing his experiences in Thinking Underage.

There is not much to fault about 'Underage Thinking'. Geiger is a strong, profound writer connecting with each track. Clearly, it doesn't sound anything like a live album, but perhaps because he co-wrote every track, Geiger's believability and obvious focus give the album the same truthful quality live recordings do. Possible future hits are A Million Years, Thinking Underage, Seven Days Without You and Possibilities but any track is good enough to be released successfully. Geiger's control over his work and the very fact he is just starting out is very encouraging. There is so much potential and so much room for growth and it's a fantastic album.
