· 8 Things To Do In Adelaide

8 Things to do in Adelaide

1. Willunga is the place to be from Thurs 27 July for a couple of weeks of the 37th Annual Almond Blossom Festival. There's food wine and entertainment on offer as the town puts on a show to welcome the aforementioned almond blossom, which makes the main street of Willunga a magical place to be. Don't tell the corellas, they've only just left and they'll spoil the show anyway.

2. The Art Gallery of South Australia might well turn into a crystal palace for 'Departure', their shiny new after-dark cultural program like no other. If you get into it you can check contemporary art at W'hite', the third such event in the series, from 6 - 9.30pm on Wed 26 July.

3.In their third concert of the series for this year The Firm's performer in residence Leigh Harrold will perform four Mozart piano works on Mon 24 July at 8pm at Pilgrim Church.

4. The Adelaide Festival Centre is proud to present the current exhibition of its very own Indigenous Art Collection, on display in the Festival Centre Artspace nowuntil the end of the month. Helped by a donation of $250,000 from the Adelaide City Council, the Festival Centre developed the collection over five years and it now comprises some 55 paintings, sculptures, works on paper and photographs by Australian Indigenous artists; such as Ian Abdulla's Drinking fishing and swimming (Down by the River) and Kathleen Petyarr's Mountain Devil Lizard Dreaming (after hailstorm).

5. Featuring a unique cast of performers, 'Green D-Men' is Troy Mundy's new work, and sees the assembly of some of Adelaide's finest male dancers (& one woman) from the Australian Dance Theatre, Leigh Warren and Dancers and the independent dance scene performing at the Bakehouse Theatre from Fri 21 July.

6. Coming up at Vitalstatistix is 'Tough Girls' a dark comedy written by Melissa Reeves and focused on some of the real stories in Melbourne's underworld. Salacious, eh? Find it at Vitals, Port Adelaide, from Fri 4 Aug.

7. Two exhibitions now open at Urban Cow are 'Fourteen' - urban art from Josh2000 vs. kid9; and '3Way', which promises to be "wilder than a walk through wacky wood", presumably because it encompasses the works of Marie Littlewood, Violet Cooper and Ewa Card.

8. Something a bit different. Head down to the Cavern on North Terrace on Sunday July 30 around 2 pm for the launch of Gary And The Rustlers new CD. If you like it country, you don't get it better than this. Boots are, of course, de rigeur.
