Dance News.
We're halfway through the year already! And what a year it's been, and the acts coming through just keep getting bigger and bigger and bigger. Coming up we have the We Love Sounds festival with Grand Master Flash, Winter Enchanted, and the big one - DJ Shadow. Yes, after skipping Adelaide on his last tour to Australia because Melbourne sold out in a day, and Adelaide had only sold a couple of hundred presales, DJ Shadow will be playing in Adelaide on Mon 31 July according to his website - assuming of course we don't get shafted in favour of Melbourne again. I was lucky enough to head over to Melbourne last time, and Shadow is right up there at the top in terms of performances I've seen. If you want to see Shadow, and trust me, you do, get tickets as early as possible. Don't let this opportunity pass us by again!
In the words of junglists everywhere.... BOH! Calyx is back. It's no secret my passion for dnb has waned in recent years, but even I have to appreciate the fact that Calyx rocks a dance floor. He smashed Earth a few days before Christmas last year, and he's set to pound the Gateway (old Black Cat) into submission once again on Fri 26 May. Support on the night to be provided by Restless, Villen, Moment, Tech9, Filter and Blast Radius with MCs X-press and Seek on the mic.
The Adelaide Breaks Collective is doing booming business with The success of Tayo and Hyper in recent months. Catch the all local Autumn Jam with DJs Lachlan Pender, Anzac, Noodle, John Doe and Spark on Fri 26 May.
And introducing the first instalment of a new bi annual dance music event, the Tilt'N'Fest at Enigma Bar, Fri 2 June! Adelaide's favourite local DJs Devious, Banga Matt, Cheeky.B, Luke Lombe, Submission, G-Force, RE, Becky Love, Monkey, RPM, Anarki & Snoozy will be joined by the UK's Steve Hill DJ Thief from the Sunshine State, and Dave Pham from chilly Melbourne for a festival set up to help out the Brumby Foundation - a non profit organisation. This will be an all out 'red cross' theme with sexy nurses giving away drinks & prizes and a free showbag of goodies supplied by our sponsors for the first 200 through the door!
But don't forget, there's plenty still happening around Adelaide. Some great clubs are the Cumby on Wed for dnb, Shake at Mojo, Twilight at Enigma and Thirsty Thursdays at Earth on Thursday Nights, Club Feva cranks it every Friday, as does Altitude at Earth , and Saturdays has Karma at Earth, Flavour at Mojo, and After Hours at Tonic. And to wind down the weekend, there's Stylus at the Gilbert on Sundays.
Finally, join me in welcoming Nina Bertok as the music and games editor. She's stepping into Andrew Street's rather hairy shoes, and I look forward to working with her as closely as I did with Andrew. Actually, I look forward to it slightly more, because I'm sure she'll smell less like a rock pig, and won't be trying to pinch my arse all the time. Not that I ever minded.
