Dance News.
With Australia being named "ecstasy capital of the world" by The Australian the other week, a report from London of a man who has apparently consumed over 40,000 ecstasy tablets in his lifetime has to be considered as a warning for those wishing to indulge in eggs of the non-chocolate kind this Easter. The guy went from an average of five pills a weekend to three pills a day, before reaching an estimated 25 pills a day over four years! Although the man has been E free for the last seven years he suffers from severe side-effects including short-term memory loss, paranoia, hallucinations and depression, as well as painful muscle inflexibility in his neck and jaw which can prevent him from eating and talking. Doctors believe that this damage is permanent and irreversible!
On Sat 15 April Adelaide's favourite promoter Ultraworld returns to St Pauls with one of their biggest Easter line-ups ever. Joining the ever fine line up of local DJs are the cream of hard house DJs Karim and Lab4, drum and bass legends London Electricity and Zinc & Verse plus trance specialists the Space DJs.
DJ Ed Real, head honcho of Riot Records and Riot Events and promoter of the official Hard Dance Awards, will be playing two sets at Earth on Easter Sun 16 April. His first set will kick off at midnight with a "Psy Trance Spectacular" followed by a "Hard Dance Journey" that The Ed is best known for! Joining Ed will be DJs Adrian V, Odyssey, Mr S, Intice and Jesta.
Making a welcome return to the airways and iPods of Australia's hip-hop community, the Resin Dogs kick off a national tour with LA's legend of underground hiphop Abstract Rude and UK's Mystro alongside Koolism's MC Hau, with Def Wish Cast rounding off this stellar cast. All this is going down on Sat 22 April at The Governor Hindmarsh.
Fabric Promotions and Echo continue their affiliation with the award winning 'Balance' series with one of the brightest stars of the future, Paolo Mojo. Smashing clubs the world over with his spellbinding, funk-filled sets, he is part of the new breed of DJs who have thrown the rulebook out the window and play straight from the heart, mashing up genres and styles. Catch this wildman at Sugar on Mon 24 April.
Get Physical with Thomas Koch aka DJ T at Electric Circus Mon 24 April if you fancy a night of blistering techno; or if that's not your thing head down to Earth to see Shy Fx & Skibba Dee, B.L.I.M and MC Shureshock.
The most respected scratch DJ on earth, DJ Qbert returns to Adelaide with MC Supernatural in tow. If you missed Supernat with Z-Trip this year, you missed some of the most amazing freestyling ever witnessed in this city, and with the talent we have here, that's saying something! Catch them at Earth on Fri 5 May. First release tickets are on sale now!
And good news for the Australian breaks scene: one of the darlings of the moment Paul Smith, otherwise known as Smithmonger will be an ex-pat no more. In a recent post on his website, the London based DJ/producer indicated that he's returning to Tasmania to raise his little girl. This is great news because it will strengthen the already strong Australian breaks scene, as well as show that you can be successful from any part of the world.
