28 Days.

28 Days For some bands, parting ways with their major label would be troubling; even devastating. For 28 Days though, the change has brought a breath of fresh air, a new CD-EP, and a DVD. They're as busy as ever, as enthusiastic as ever, and rocking out as hard as ever on their latest offering, 'Bring 'Em Back'.

Adrian Griffin, the band's Sydney-based drummer, has been keeping busy organising the promotional material for the EP release, doing interviews, and sorting out the various bits and pieces of art associated with a CD release and touring - his own fault really, seeing as he put together the artwork on the slicks, which has also meant putting together the tour posters and whatnot.

"I kind of 'found' the image, and I took the photo behind, which is like, this wall around the corner from my house," Griffin laughs of his eye-catchingly yellow design.

"I can't really draw that well, but I can use Photoshop and Illustrator and all those programs."

The independent release has done well in pre-sales and in its' first few days in record stores. "Apparently we've sold quite a few [online]," Giffin muses. "And I suppose we get a bit of feedback through our forum, through the website and through myspace. Everyone's got their myspace pages so that's the biggest point of contact, I guess, and we've had a lot of good feedback, and people seem to be looking forward to the tour that's coming up. There's a bit of a vibe happening!"

Griffin and his bandmates are excited to be out on the road again, although it has felt like they've been on a bit of a hiatus in recent months. "It's funny you should say that, because pretty much all last year we were touring," Griffin notes. "But mostly in sort of remote areas, and I suppose it wasn't really advertised a whole lot, apart from the areas we were playing in, so we were doing a lot of sold-out shows in regional areas, but obviously there's no real point in advertising it in capital cities and places that aren't [in] those areas. It feels like we've been playing all last year, but a lot of people do say, 'you guys have disappeared for a while'... I suppose we've just been playing, and just keeping the band out there and going to places we haven't been. Last year we did the Metal Mulisha motocross tour and the Crusty Demons tour; that kind of took us to Darwin and Alice Springs and [some] pretty remote areas."

And it seems the Crusty tour has left its mark on Griffin. "They do backflips - they backflipped a snow-mobile and a four-wheeler, and it's just crazy what they get up to!" he laughs. "You never get sick of it - I thought I'd get sick of it after two shows, but every show they'll just pull some new trick out."

Griffin does admit that the last couple of months since Christmas have been much quieter on the live side of things. "This is probably the longest break - we did a few shows over summer and that, but since [the Krusty tour], we've been off for a while," he says. "I haven't played live for a while, so I'm kind of looking forward to getting back on stage. There's a few places we haven't played for a while and we're doing Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide and Brisbane, so that's cool."

As well as thanking his bandmates in his other band Degeneracy on the sleevenotes to 'Bring 'Em Back', Griffin and bassist Damian (Damo) Gardiner also thank locals The Hot Lies. "We did a big tour from just after Christmas [2004], right until the end of January [2005], which was almost every day," Griffin recalls. "And apart from WA, The Hot Lies did the whole tour with us, and they were just the most awesome guys. We've played with heaps of bands; we play everywhere and stuff, but there's a few bands we've gotten along really well with. They're cool guys... and definitely crazy!"

28 Days play at Shadows in Mt Gambier on Thurs 30 March and the Enigma Bar on Fri 31 March with Mere Theory.
