Gareth Berliner 'Is Gutless'
Belgian Beer Cafe
Tues 14 March
Crohn's disease: Google and learn kids. Or better still, get along and hear from a man who knows first hand the collateral toll this illness can have on a man, but don't expect him to take matters too seriously. As a kid in the UK, Gareth Berliner was diagnosed with Crohn's and after the initial realisation that this didn't mean he'd end up with radioactive superhuman powers but instead a backpack full of water and a pump and a tube running directly to his heart, along with an unhealthy thirst for alcohol, highly addictive pharmaceuticals and the occasional desire to die as long as he looked good at the time.
Berliner decided it's best not to let things get him down: 'Gutless' may not be side splittingly, gut busting hilarious, in fact at times Berliner's delivery comes over more as a humorous testimonial speech than a stand up routine, but one thing that's guaranteed is that by the end of his show you'll not only feel much better about life and all it's embarrassing side effects, you'll better understand why laughter is the best medicine. Definitely glad I got along to see this one.
