I'm in two minds when it comes to Chris Wainhouse and Paul Brasch's brand of stand up, for offstage they're two genuinely nice guys. But give them a microphone and there lies the conundrum.
Are they actually a couple of crass, misinformed racists who honestly believe that comedy of the absolute lowest denominator is actually funny? Or are they simply tapping into a vein that's become so publicly hush-hush these days that they know they're going to provoke an adverse reaction - with the aim of creating a turnaround?
Judging by how Brasch didn't so much work towards stemming many his counterpart's forwardly delivered opinionated outbursts as sheepishly shied away from them, I'd like to believe the latter.
Yes I was at times put off by some of their comments, but admittedly, mildly amused by their blatant display of pre-planned ignorance of minority groups, the disabled, women and themselves and chickens. These were comments that made some people walk out mid-performance, and left others (of all shapes, sizes and denominations) either silently dumbfounded or cheering aloud. I remain firmly on the fence with this one.
