Dave Williams 'Not Part Of The Master Plan'
Bin 273
Tues 14 March
Beginning his show with his observational love for his hometown "Radelaide", which took on everything from our prompt public transport system, bogans and award winning hair salons, Melbourne based comedian Dave Williams then proceeds to itemise each of the seven deadly sins and considers the lighter side of such transgressions.
Vanity was first, and here he knowingly puts his spin on whom, or more importantly who shouldn't be wearing leopard skin print clothing as well as questioning those who shave their pubic areas. Jamie Oliver Vs the Two Fat Ladies provided a well rounded argument when it came to tackling gluttony, mind you Jamie lost; and a hilariously, if not slightly exaggerated acted out excursion into a porn shop gave us an insight to Williams' view on lust.
Wrath took us back to his adolescent days, where a backyard incinerator became the perfect tool for revenge on an older brother; 'Star Wars' collectors may want to leave the room for this part. As for sloth, well I don't know what happened there as he couldn't be bothered with that one. An off kilter re-enactment of the biblical story of Cain and Abel demonstrated envy, and the question of what would you do with a twenty-million dollar Powerball win dealt with Greed. Williams' answer was far more narcissistically cruel than it first appeared.
Dave Williams has long been one of my favourite stand up acts, mainly due to natural, give-it-a-go approach to his delivery. If something doesn't work, his 'tough titties and move on' attitude certainly guarantees that he's always able to keep an audience on his side.
