Akmal Live
Akmal Saleh
Nova Cinema until Sun 19 March

Egyptian born Akmal Saleh's greatest strength is his ability to stir up audience participation, whether his poor victims are willing or not. Gaining minor details such as name, occupation and (considering much of his canon) nationality, Saleh utilises his sharp witted improvisational skills to taunt his target intermittently throughout the show.

But nah, he's "just fucking with them" and just wants to have fun because he doesn't care anymore, and bearing in mind the constant comical, stereotypical driven racial observations he makes towards his Arab background, Saleh can hardly be accused of being a racist when he "fucks" with everybody equally. Unfortunate as it was, the recent Cronulla race riots also proved to be absolute gold material-wise, especially since he's actually married to an anglo woman and lives at Brighton-le-Sands, with both of them receiving opposing text messages. Other topics touched upon in his show are gay Arab terrorists and stories of tours to outback Australia, trips back home to Israel and the occasional bad Pope joke thrown in for good measure.

Ending the show with accomplice and fellow comedian/opening act, Joel Ozborn, Saleh rouses an audience Q&A session before showing off a bag full of treasures they've found in local op shops. This is one gathering that's definitely worth texting your mates about.
