20 Years Of The Pants
Higher Ground
Tues 14 March
Take three enthusiastic performers, a room full of chairs and more inspiration and imagination than the room can handle and what do you get... '20 Years Of The Pants'. This show has pizzazz, spazz and a lot of mess! (Thankfully all the mess stays on the stage).
So, who are The Pants? They are Daniel Koerner, Nina Pearce and Mark Winter, three recent graduate actors from around Australia with an interesting idea. And the next obvious question, what are The Pants? Well that's not so easy to answer, it has a bit of everything from the pie gag to magic disappearing tricks (beware the disappearing clothing)! There's singing and dancing, Hamlet, Joan Of Arc and much, much more. It's expressive, introspective, retrospective and occasionally just plain crazy.
There's no shiny veneer to this show, no flashy multimedia or expensive moving sets. It's just them on stage with boxes of junk and some microphones. Don't get me wrong, there is a lot of junk and most items have their own intriguing moment in the show. Also, there's a cute sound scape by sound designer Lauren Pittwood that has its own moments.
As a first show, it attempts to do a lot so at times can feel like it's exploding with interesting stuff. Then at other times it's a little disjointed and rough, and could probably do with a bit more cut and polish here and there. However, it looks like we should be expecting some interesting stuff from this little company.
If you enjoy your theatre chunky and spunky then check this number out, it is at Higher Ground for a short time only.
