Puff 'n' Stuff.

Must... finish... Puff'n'Stuff... tell the nice people about what's... going on in Adelaide... eyes, searing... ears, ringing... liver, crying... so much art... weekly issues of dB Magazine... there's so much - too much - going on, and only one Puff with which to experience it - one Puff that must stand tall, drink the proferred chardonnay and say "yes, but is it art"... so tired, so very very tired... no sleep since the Garden Of Unearthly Delights opened, now there's The Persian Garden...and there's still so much to go... what's that? Is it the blessed rhythm of Death, riding his jet-black steed to take Puff into the warm, Fringe-and-Festival-less depths of the grave? Why... er, no: it's people preparing for WOMADelaide on home-made drums. There appears to be fire-twirlers too, and the stilts can't be far away... Oh sweet Hades, come release Puff into your twilight realm - but just as soon as we've gotten through all of the things below:

He was in Slint. He's a member of Tortoise. Billy Corgan recruited him to bring some much-needed good to the ill-fated Zwan. You might even know him as Papa M, but to Puff he is David Pajo and he'll be at the Grace Emily on Tues 14 March, along with Jack Ladder.

Jarrod Zlatic hasn't been wasting time since the demise of Oh! Belgium: he's enlisted fellow Melbournian Nisa Venerosa, formed Fabulous Diamonds and is heading to Adelaide for the first time for shows at the Rocket Bar on Fri 10 March (with No Through Road, Hit The Jackpot and Sweet Raxxx, with various members of said bands kicking it on the DJ decks between sets), and the Exeter Hotel on Rundle Street on Sat 11 March (with Lindsay Lowhand, the new project for ex-and-now-current local boy Scott O'Hara, him out of True Radical Miracle and Hardy Coxon).

Stuff from Puff: Sure, every jerk band on the planet reforms sooner or later, but who on earth thought that Brazilian psych legends Os Mutantes would put three decades behind them and reform as part of the Tropicalia Festival in the UK in May? It's not quite a complete reunion, mind: Sergio and Arnaldo Baptista are on board, but not singer Rita Lee. But hey, even so...
US rockers Cold, meanwhile, have split - reading between the lines of the somewhat rambling statement on their website it would seem that record industry indifference is the culprit ("When you put a song out on the radio, it is what it is. It's a gamble on your life and your career and your hope. People just didn't react the way we had hoped they would... Instead of having someone tell us that it's over, we choose to tell them instead. We bled on those tracks and the label just didn't see what they had. The industry today is too jaded and fake.") Oh music industry, when will you learn to love; not hate?... People who've always loved such tracks as Depeche Mode's Suffer Well, Kajagoogoo's Too Shy and Howard Jones' Things Can Only Get Better but have lamented that they could understand the words will be delighted to hear that they've been translated into Simlish and included on the forthcoming 'The Sims 2: Open For Business' PC computer game expansion pack. And yes, this means that Dave Gahan actually took Suffer Well into the studio and re-recorded a newly translated vocal. We live in a golden age, people... Former Jackson 5 drummer Johnny Jackson was found dead in his apartment with knife wounds to the chest after a neighbour called police to a disturbance between Jackson and an unknown woman. Not unreasonably, the death's being treated as a murder. Jackson drummed in the 5 since 1967 and may or may not be a member of the titular family (the story apparently varies depending on who you ask)... More reality TV shenanigans with word of US cable station VH1 launching "Supergroup", in which a bunch of heavy music types - specifically Ted Nugent, Anthrax's Scott Ian, Sebastian Bach (late of Skid Row), Evan Seinfeld (of Biohazard) and Jason Bonham - are thrown together to make a masterpiece, or a godawful racket. Or both... Puff's Legal Corner: Oh, George Michael when will you learn that whenever the police get involved, it ends badly? London police found him slumped at the wheel of his car at 1.50am on Sun 26 Feb, and after reckoning that he might be a tad unfit to drive, they arrested him and found some controlled substances (allegedly cannabis) in his vehicle. That said, after being taken to the lockup and charged with possession of Class C substances, he was determined capable of driving but ended up getting a lift home with the duty solicitor since his car had been accidentally impounded... Rapper Cassidy is out of jail after nine months: he'd turned himself in to authorities in June last year on charges of involuntary manslaughter after the shooting death of his friend Desmond Hawkins. Word is he wants to get back in the studio asap... Lil' Kim, meanwhile, is still in jail - and, apparently, concerned that her boobs are leaking. She reckons something's gone awry with her implants and needs attention, but the prison authorities are determined that their on-site medical staff are up to the challenge should there be a problem... Sad news for Leonard Cohen: the Canadian music legend has just had a default order filed against former manager Kelley Lynch for the US$9.5 million allegedly stolen from his accounts, but the judge admitted that it was unlikely they'd be able to actually recover the money... And Gary Glitter, aka Paul Gadd, will be spending the next three years in Vietnam, courtesy of the sentence handed down by the courts in his child molestation case. He was found guilty of committing obscene acts with two girls aged 10 and 11, and will be deported back to Britain after completing his sentence (although he loudly proclaimed he'd been set up by tabloid journalists). His lawyers have two weeks to appeal, and reckon he'll be eligible for parole after serving one year. A tip for those appearing in court in Vietnam: the suit-with-bandana look perhaps doesn't evoke the sense of respectful gravitas you might be after. Just putting it out there.

Got your ticket for Funeral For A Friend as yet? Well, hurry up: they're at Thebbie on Wed 5 April heading an all-star lineup that includes Fightstar, My Awesome Compilation and Behind Crimson Eyes. You'll love it.

Kasavett are gearing up to release their debut CD (at least, their debut CD under their post-Everest name) at the Jade Monkey on Fri 31 March.

Off The Couch @ FreshBAIT holds its final night at Fowler's Live for the Fringe on Mon 13 March with Poly & The Statics, Stilkarma and The Bovines doing what they do so well - and for free too!

Oh, those irreverent folks at the Grace Emily: they're celebrating that world music festival thingy with their own sounds of the planet on Sun 12 March with "GONADelaide", featuring Longhorn, Swayback, The Scarfs, The Beards, Cookie Baker, The Gaza Strippers and the return of The Shandy Butchers.

Indie kids, rejoice! Not only have Belle & Sebastian just released their much-anticipated 'The Life Pursuit', they're doing an Australian tour - and, for the first time, Adelaide's getting a look in! In fact, they'll be at Thebbie on Fri 9 June.

Eletronic-acoustic blenders Gauche are heading to the Bosco Theatre for three nights in preparation for their season at the Sydney Opera House later this year: Hear them pull all the favourites from last year's 'Paints Lane' on Wed 8 March, Thurs 9 March and Fri 10 March.

Brace yourself, Adelaide: Brother Man Dude is coming home. Well, for a couple of shows at least. And you probably know him better as Tom Smith, that guy from The Moonies and The Old Timers. In any case, he'll be at the Prince Albert on Sat 11 March (with Home For The Def and No Through Road) and the Wheatsheaf Hotel on Fri 17 March (with Kieran Waters and The Jason Recliner).

Iota (or, if you simply must play fast and loose with your capitalisation conventions, iOTA) is heading for the Jade Monkey with a guitar in his hand, a bunch of songs from his imminent new album in his heart and a show on Fri 10 March.

Fancy a drink? Puff does, and was therefore intrigued by the Two More Vodkas Tour which is happening at the Famous Spiegeltent on Mon 13 March, with The Emily Davis Band, Curio (aka Craig Lewis and Kylie Cowling from Kaleidoscope), The Dairy Brothers and Krysalis showing off their respective chops. And if you're offering, Puff's is a gin & tonic - Bombay Sapphire please, and would it kill you to add some lime?

Lovers of the sounds of Greece should get themselves to the Space Theatre in the Festival Centre for 'Rebetika: Greek Urban Blues' as part of Festival Hellenika 2006. Thirteen of Adelaide's finest Greek musicians will be presenting the work of composer Yiorgos Mitsakis, under the watchful eye (and possibly baton) of concert director Tsambika De George on Thurs 30 March and Fri 31 March.

Lovers of twisted circus tunery, dark cabaret and things that go barp in the night had better get themselves to the Umbrella Revolution on Sat 11 March to catch the mighty Darth Vegas.

28 Days have a new CD-EP out: it's called Bring 'Em Back, and they're doing a national tour to celebrate. To that end, catch them at Shadows in Mounty G (oh all right, Mount Gambier) on Thurs 30 March and the Enigma Bar on Fri 31 March, with Mere Theory.

And speaking of Mere Theory, as we were mere seconds ago, they have resolidified their lineup with the addition of new vocalist Chris Mellow - and you can see the new-look 'Theory rockin' the stage with 28 Days as outlined above, or if you can't wait that long, you could see them supporting Grinspoon and Cog at the Clipsal 500 show on Thurs 23 March.

SixFtHick are about to make a triumphant return to Adelaide with a new album and two nights at the Crown & Anchor on Fri 24 March and Sat 25 March.

The Famous Spiegeltent keeps brining the good stuff through the next week, including Chipolatas and former Men At Work frontperson Colin Hay on Wed 8 March, Shooglenifty on Thurs 9 March and Tues 14 March, Kerri Simpson on Fri 10 March and Ash Grunwald on Sat 11 March, as well as a full season of Jimeoin (occasionally flanked with the truly magnificent Mr Bob Franklin) almost every night. Come on, how many Fringes do we get? Here's Mr Grunwald, about to open a can of rootsy whipass on you:

Come on, that's got to be more than enough reasons for you to...
