Tomas Ford's Cabaret Of Death
East End Exchange Hotel
until Sun 19 March
As with the likes of Trent Reznor, Gus Black and, to some extent a very angry ABBA, Perth's Tom‡s Ford sets out to shock with his sweaty emotionally charged interpretation of social and domestic unrest.
By utilising the very fabric of song and spoken word theatre, Ford successfully aims to jolt and stun the senses at every pulsating beat of his subtlety pop sampled, in your face electro-punk backing. Ford is intense, yet at the same time he's untrustingly misleading in that while one second he's kicking over tables in a spasmodic rage, in less than a breath he's seductively draped across an audience member's lap or shoulder and quietly crooning in their ear.
The venue's his stage and he's not afraid to abuse it and take you with him. Edgy, dark and unsettling, and one hell of an experience.
