Sista She
'Inna Thigh', Fowler's Live
Tues 28 Feb
Sista She are back, this time with the biopic 'Inna Thigh', telling the epic tale of how they rose above the suburban shackles of talk show addiction and chubby knees to become hip hop superstars.
Sheila was humming to herself at Gymea station when Rasheda gently fell into harmony, they were beginning to jam it out when ''local no tooth weirdo' asks the inevitable question of two girls sitting at the station "what are youse girls doin'?". It is their most famous song, gaining Triple J airplay for it's neat hum-harmony and sista streetwise response to the dude's inquiry about whether they have boyfriends. Rasheda's incredible transformation using an elongated mullet into an undesirable male was so true it was hilarious. As the whole show is. If there was a punter who didn't raise a smirk I would be shocked - this show is Fringe gold.
Funky and funny, pithy without being preachy, the girls have the skills to pay the bills: fantastic voices and surprising vocal range, committed and side-splitting dance moves. The Sista She three provided the two women with a solid and wide ranging backing for their fun filled songs and performance pastiche, with Busty Beats programming, DJ Jonah scratching and double bass played by FRE giving depth to the performance.
More than a hip hop musical of two girls rising from the suburbs, it is also a knowing, reflexive piece produced with the best of aims - to entertain and provoke in the most delightful way.
