Katrina Miani 'Reality TV Freak'>
Freemasons Hall (Chandelier Room)
Thurs 2 March
Hands up all those who remember Katrina 'Kat' Miani from 'Big Brother Series 2'?
I do, and I'm sure plenty of others will when prompted that she was the one consistently portrayed throughout her three stay in the house as being the neurotically imbalanced cry baby. The one who bawled incessantly after being given the outside word that her pet goldfish had died; consequently sparking conspiracy rumours that the message was in fact code-speak telling her that some nude pictures taken years ago had been leaked to the media. Yup, her. Well she's back, and this time with vengeance.
Doing her best with her characteristic whiny voice, Miani sets out not only to refute the way she was shown across the nation, but also expose some of the less than fair methods used by the BB editing team in order to bring us entertainment, and the exploitative treatment of the housemates thereafter.
Recounting stories from the arduous audition process and from their perspective within the house, a lot of what's said did make for an interesting listen, with Miani allowing that under such inequitable circumstances she did indeed buckle at times.
Miani is clearly damaged by the experience, yet parallel to bagging the unscrupulous side to the show she also took turn to typify her own and the other contestant's narcissistic and attention seeking reasoning for going on in the first place, therefore proffering some praise for being given her fifteen minutes. A brave step, considering that Big Brother is always watching.
