Prize Frenzy™!
What's that? Sorry, it's hard to hear you over the endless trilling of Frenzor™'s mobile (and yes, his ringtone surprised us too: who knew Crazy Frog had covered Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah? Say what you will about that hateful animated amphibian: he certainly follows his own muse). Frenzor™'s left us to field his calls while he goes out on the town to shmooze and network with the industry folk pouring into Adelaide for the Fringe and Festival, dahling. He might be a three-story tall dragon-beast made entirely of sulphur, flame and murderous hatred, but he still loves to synergise with the movers and shakers in this glittering business of show. Anyway, while he's out doing lunch we'll be sorting out dB Magazine's first ever fatality-free Prize Frenzy™: ring 8231 0881 at 1pm on Fri 3 March and risk nothing more deadly than disappointment when you ask for your choice of the following:
1. How about something suitably Festivalish to kick off? The Australian Dance Theatre would enjoy the pleasure of your company at their upcoming show 'Devolution' at Her Majestys Theatre at 8pm on Sun 5 March.
2. That's not to suggest that we're slacking off in Fringery, mind - in fact, we have two double passes to the Umbilical Bros's show at the Union Hall at Adelaide Uni on Tues 7 March, courtesy of the lovely Ms Jane Intini.
3. Then again, maybe you'd sooner get yourself some of the primitive blues of the helmet-wearing madman we call Bob Log III? We've got three doubles for each of his shows on Fri 3 March and Sat 4 March, thanks to Jive.
4. Julian Cram reckons that Coldcut's 'Sound Mirrors' is a damn fine record, and we here at dB Magazine think he makes a good case: that's why it's 'We Liked It And You Will Too', and why Inertia have slipped us a snazzy pack containing a copy of the disc and Coldcut stencils, stickers and badges.
5. Deadfriends (or deadFRIENDS, if you absolutely must type it that way) are launching their debut CD-EP 'Mutate' at the Scorcher Festival at Glenelg Foorball Club, but if you can't wait until then you can grab one of five copies of said disc, thanks to the band
6. Sophie Koh's coming for the Fuse On Stage Export Showcase on Wed 1 March, but she's also releasing her Silly Thing CD-EP, of which Shock have sent us five copies because they're nice that way.
7. The above also applies to True Live: over here for the showcase, have CD-EP out, five copies, thanks Shock, nice, way: yep, that's all in order. Ann Marie Sosnowski talks to them all about it in this issue, incidentally.
8. Michael Hunter enjoys a civilised chat with Richard Thompson in this issue and to celebrate Dianna O'Neill Publicity have handed over three double passes to Mr Thompson's show at the Norwood Concert Hall on Mon 6 March, and each one also comes with a 'Live From Austin TX' CD. It's Richtastic!
9. Ed Kuepper tells Ben Revi about his recent slew of compilations in this issue, and you could be hearing those tunes in the live environment by grabbing a double pass to this show at the Famous Spiegeltent on Mon 6 March, thanks to Buxton Walker Publicity.
