Mindbending UmbrellaRevolution until Sun 19 March Many will know The Space Cowboy as the master of sword swallowing from one of the bigger hit shows of previous Fringe events, 'The Happy Sideshow'; but now as if to further question the actual 'freak' rating of this quiet spoken, and most intriguing enigmatic character comes 'Mind Bending'. Starting off with a short demonstration of his sharp edged culinary skills, the show then plateaus as audience members are called upon to participate in a series of incredibly unbelievable paranormal, and sometimes quite dangerous (for the artist that is) demonstrations. Now, for the more cynical and possibly better educated killjoys out there, most of the tricks using what Space Cowboy refers to as "thought transference" and not actual mind reading. As such, they may be easily questioned - and spoilers found. But for the great majority, especially those who want to be simply entertained, the perceptual manipulation exhibited will undoubtedly boggle any rationale you may have. Obviously educated in both the history and psychology behind his weird craft, much of what is about to occur is given a narrative run down as it happens, therefore providing some consolation and a little understanding of what he's doing and adding further weight and mystique to his apparent powers. Collating the thoughts of three individuals and using other people's hands to bend spoons and knock items off a table from a distance are just a few of the amazing feats you'll witness. This show is literally pulse stopping.  |
